Did anyone actually claim Avatar was original or a great story?

Pickle, when he was around, said that Avatar was a revelation.

Several hundred other people around this country were adamant Avatar fans, so much so that a few of them reportedly killed themselves because they couldn't live on Pandora.

I think that was just one of those stories the media picked up because they believed everything written on the internet was fact-based. A Something Awful or 4chan thread, iirc?
