Ayn Rand

Conchaga said:
Cult and Ayn Rand can easily be used in the same sentence. Just as Randites can be described as deeply religious or spiritual.
I didn't say it was difficult to do so. I said it worries me when someone does it.

And negging you ins't a possiblity right now, seeing as I'm fully red myself.
Aha. So it was an empty threat then. I see.

And, with all matters of Randian subjects, I take everything seriously. It's probably one of my few trolling weaknesses.
More seriously than you take yourself?

Wasn't Lulu DC'ed a couple times? Who let him out?

But, but according to these bitches at Troll Kingdom, I was never DC'ed. Interesting that your statement shows otherwise. Interesting turn of events here. Also interesting you know EXACTLY the number of times I was DC'ed (Trollish for BANNED). How is that? You seem to be the only one who knows the precise number of times I was DC'ed. An Admin perhaps, using a dual as a decoy?

Detractor

Allow me to point out Ayn Rand's stupidity and explain why women should never be allowed to author books.

A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others.

Dumb bitch is she not? That is 100% false.

A government is the most dangerous threat to man's rights: it holds a legal monopoly on the use of physical force against legally disarmed victims.

Tell that to the millions of lawyers on this planet bitch.

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.

Yet look at her previous quote above. Contradictory bitch yes?

Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong.

I proved otherwise. Look at your own quotes you stupid cunt. You ARE a very contradiction.

Achieving life is not the equivalent of avoiding death.

Hello Mrs. Obvious?

I've now added you, SaintLucifer, to my ignore list. What a wonderful device!

Reason for ignoring: large fonts in yellow really hurt my eyes. Try green and maybe we'll talk later.

Don't take it personally. I make a strict habit of cutting neurotics like you out of my life whenever possible.

*YAWN*

Oh, should I have displayed a modicum of 'care' that you have ignored me? Woe is me! There, is that better?

Are you implying that Conchaga and I are the same poster? ;)

Not at all. I mean, I wouldn't exactly be stunned if you were, but if I had to take a stab at it I'd say no.

Well, a thing is what it is.

The absolute meaninglessness of this phrase never fails to crack me up. :)

I read Atlas Shrugged in 3rd grade, after going to one of those Objectivist gatherings with my mom.

Strange shit. I think I liked the Fountainhead better, but whatever, she's a fucking crank, and should have ridden the meatpole a little more often.

In My Humble Opinion.

Rumor has it that between her husband and Nathaniel Branden, she was well satisfied.

Branden had a sentient talking third nipple, which I'm told he would introduce into the cocktail conversation at key moments.

Yes, and you're his bitch.

Hahaha, no, I'm not an admin, and no, I don't know how many times you've been DC'ed. For all I care, an admin DC's you every day for the hell of it, and another lets you out.

There is no such thing as a sentient talking third nipple. Third nipple? Yes. Sentient third nipple? Maybe. Talking sentient third nipple? Anatomically impossible.

The rumor you've quoted has been mangled over the years. It was actually his twin sister who was imbedded in Brandon's chest.

I got this straight from Barbara Branden.

Why would you say it's meaningless? I'm curious as to your thoughts on that.

You probably shouldn't be: I have yet to read any Rand. Why did I start the thread? I got curious once you showed up and Conchaga revealed that he was a fan. I've always noted how polarizing her views have been over the years and always meant to get around to reading her works, but as it is my booklist is as long as my arm these days and I'll be lucky to crack open either "Fountainhead" or "Atlas" until next year.

As for why it's meaningless: Well, it's just the sort of dismissive platitude you hear from people when they don't want to continue thinking about something but want to seem profound (or even funny, as the phrase "is it what it is" seems to have become a kind of in-joke with many people I know). And yeah, I know the whole grander idea behind it, A=A, etc. from old associates who kept trying to sell me on Rand years ago. It still strikes me as an unnecessary, lowest-common-denominator kind of gimmick.

But let me read up before I go any further. Thanks for your response.

Yikes. Are we still talking about Ayn Rand, or David Lynch?

I am not a "fan" as Conchaga describes himself. I am an Objectivist by philosophy, and someone who has "shrugged." I admire Rand for what she created and presented, and respect her, but "fan?" Not me.

Some people do use the concept "it is what it is" in the fashion you describe. I'm glad you understand the deeper meaning behind what should be a basic concept. Unfortunately, there are a lot of individuals who would love to profit off of you by having you think otherwise.

Incidentally, if you or anyone else reading this would like to get a deeper insight into Objectivism, then this is an excellent site: http://www.whatisobjectivism.com/

Well, yes, it could appear that way on the surface. Her whole philosophy is really built on the statement Parmenides made of, "what is, is." She changed it to mean A is A, or a more complex general statement of "existence exists." And by 'existence' she means "a collective noun, denoting the sum of existents."

She emphasizes this phrase becuse she's trying to point out how many relativists there are out there that make defining philosophy impossible. She's trying to destroy the phrases "anything's possible" and "nothing can be certain." Both of which are self-contradicting statements.

Alas, I can go on for hours. Yet, that should be a good base argument.

When you get around to reading Rand, it's my reccomendation to read Anthem first. In that book she explains the type of world her 'second handers' wish to create. It gives you a better example of the apocalyptic undertones she speaks of in The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged.

Yes, Galt, Randites are cultish and they are very religious. Ayn Rand agreed completely with those statements.
