Barcelona vs Arsenal

I've never tried provided a running commentary through a match before. Considering I was doing that, watching it, and fiddling about with a Spreadsheet, I reckon girls aren't the only ones who can multi-task!

In a nutshell : Barcelona was better Arsenal. But Wenger proved to be a better tactician than Guardiola.

Walcott's substitution was game breaking.

Bien joué, Arsène.

Well...what a spectacle that was. If LOLcott hasn't booked his plane ticket to South Africa with that then he never will. He was a complete game changer and we finally decided with 70 minutes on the clock that we could play football.

It's easy to be rose tinted about your own team but I think it's obvious to all that we are lucky to finish the game with a 2-2 score line. Of course that leaves Barcelona in a much stronger position than us but it gives us something to work with and considering how dire things were I can't help but feel upbeat about it. The tension I felt when Fab stepped up for the penalty was excruciating but he buried it and it was a huge moment marred by yet another occurrence of his injury he obviously wasn't over to begin with.

Barcelona were incredible tonight and showed exactly why they're the best team in the world right now. But results are what matters and we drew them at the end of 90 minutes. I don't think any sane man would have put a bet down on that result at half time.

Barcelona stomped us for 90% of the match at THE EMIRATES which is even more remarkable but the last 10-15 did show that Arsenal have grit and fight and can link up with incredible speed no matter what time is showing on the clock. Barcelona may have deserved the win but that is not how football works and we did hang on and we did put them to the sword long enough to equalise. That is something this team would have been incapable of last year.

The whole night came at a price, we lost key players and I think Gallas was the worst to lose out of all of them. You have to believe he would have been clued to the second goal and closed Ibra down but that's all speculation. We grinded out a result against the best team in the world who obviously came to London with nothing short of naked ambition, skill and desire. We may be looking at a disadvantage here but against all expectations we still go to the Nou Camp with a real chance. For now I'm just happy we will make the trip there not just in necessity but with a real -if distant- chance of going forward in the competition.

I challenge anyone to find a game like football that can excite and generate emotion like it. I was exhausted just watching it.

^Fabergas is being modest in that article - I think his presence will be missed - but at the end he states Theo was the best player.
No.
Theo galvanized the offensive (gods I want to see that speed at the Cup!) but there would have been no come - back possible if Almunia hadnt denied Barca those shots on goal. I cant remember when I've seen a Keeper withstand such a barrage! He was MVP.

Almunia was my best Arsenal player last night as well. He made a mistake on the first goal but Zlatan chipped it well and he wasn't to blame for the second goal. But considering the world class performance he put in throughout the match I think the mistake can be well and truly forgiven.

The turning point was easily Walcott's introduction, and Guardiola's resulting reaction to it. He made the wrong substitutions that immediately turned his team into a negative unit.
