Bates Motel

It was okay. I'm not so sure about the chemistry between the actors playing Norman and Mom. The kid might get annoying after a while. I'll check it out again. We'll see.

BUT I WASNT THRILLED WITH HAVING TO WAIT ANOTHER TWO HOURS TO SEE DRAG RACE GORRAMIT!

There was an episode of Murder She Wrote set in the Bates Motel film set. I bet it was better than this show.

You can see the Bates Motel and Cabot Cove (from Murder, She Wrote) at Universal Studios Hollywood. Like everything from TV it looks tiny in real life.

OMERGERD! The kid is Freddie Highmore! I remember thinking while I was watching, "hmph, that kid looks like Freddie Highmore...but it can't be him."

WHY THE FUCK IS EVERY AMERICAN TV ROLE NOW ACTED BY A BRIT? EVEN HOLLYWOOD IS OUTSOURCING NOW!! JEEBUS!!!11 :rwmad:

I remember seeing Freddie in some indie film a year or two ago and thinking, "Yikes, he hasn't aged well." But he looks younger NOW as Bates for some reason. But I still reserve judgment on the "aging well" issue.

The mom's tha draw for me (Vera Farmiga from Up in the Air) -- it's gonna be fun watching them dissect her personality to see how she turned Norman into a nutcase. And Farmiga seems quite game.

The ratings were respectable -- it landed in the Top 10 for cable shows, on a night dominated by basketball and WWE. It got about the same size audience as Community does. Maybe if Community were on a cable channel, Dan Harmon never would have left and it wouldn't be treated like a sick chicken in the media...

If I were trying to create a different kind of show, I'd want it on cable WITH ALL MY HEART. Cable channels (other than SyFy) seem to appreciate quirky shows, and give them a chance. FX already renewed The Americans, even though the ratings for that show dipped quite a bit after the premiere (that show is still excellent BTW!).

I get why Brits keep getting cast in American shows but it seems to be nearly every show now. You'd think US actors would have had enough of it.

It's probably because young American actors don't take any voice classes and still sound like Jeff Spiccoli when they graduate Julliard or Yale Drama.

I'm starting to think they are, since they expect to work for peanuts in the UK and only sign 3-year deals.

But I think Hugh Laurie broke the code on all that when House became such a hit.
