We've hit 300,000 posts in the MF. I was thinking of moving more to the Archives (say, the rest of 2005). That would affect about 2,500 threads out of 18,800.

Obviously it wouldn't affect any old thread that has posts in it after 2005 (e.g., "Laker_Girl you are my hero" etc.)

Thoughts? Rants? Shut up and go wank to some twinks, Eggs?

Threads can always be moved back to the MF individually (by someone with the POWWWWWWERRRRRRRRR) if you spot one you want to bump.

We currently account for 31% of TK's threads and 27% of its posts. AS IT SHOULD BE. But I don't like to seem...ostentatious. ;)

Again, there was no mandate from above, I couldn't sleep and was bored...
 
As long as we're not seeing any slowdowns (I know I'm not, at least) I don't see any reason to archive more threads.

IS there a reason?

HAVE there been slowdowns?

IS THERE SOMETHING YOU'RE HIDING FROM US?

Shall we go for a bigger slice? If 300,000 is the cut off, and we've hit it once before, it would probably make sense, to say, move out anything with 20 posts or less (even though I love randomly bumping those sorts of unloved threads).

How many would that be? (I could look myself, but I can't be arsed).
 
20 posts or less would be overkill. That would move 76% of the Mine Field into the Archive. :eek:

Even if it were only threads with less than 5 posts, we would move about 3,750 threads out of 18,800.
 
Right you are are - well, 5 posts or less isn't a great loss. At least 3,750 out of 18,800 woud save such a harsh reduction the next time round.

Is this needed? Would moving threads to the achives actually make a different? The whole reason it was done last time was because the achive forum was going to be split off onto a different server (or something) but Cow couldn't work out how to do it, so it just stayed here.

The last time I (CaptainWacky) was in charge of pruning I think we were at over 320,000 posts. I started by deleting every thread with 0 replies then moved some of the huge threads to the archives (since it was going to be split off but OH NOES it wasn't.) Moving everything with 20 posts or less would be insanity and even five posts I'm not sure about, but if it's needed I suppose so...but research if moving to the achives actually does anything first.
 
Take a breath. As I said, nothing needs to be done at all. It was just a thought, since we hit a post milestone. My OCD kicked in while I couldn't sleep last night, that's all.

I moved the zero-reply threads that were older than 3 months, which only amounted to ~200 threads. Then I had the idea to start a discussion about further archiving. That's all. No biggie. I SAID NO BIGGIE!!!111

Because I deleted them all last time (and no one noticed.) I was just asking if archiving makes a difference since the threads are still on the board (but I suppose they're locked so there's nobody browsing them or replying.)
 
Fewer threads means that searches take less time, and there's less server huffing/puffing. Plus, the overall board total is over a million and I know mm likes to keep things under a million for bandwidth/server purposes.

So I thought I would be that guy, and make a move without being asked, making us look even better than we already do and HAHA FUCK EVERYONE ELSE'S SAD SHITTY FORUMS LOL! Or something.

I don't even care about this anymore to be honest. Never read anything I post in the pre-dawn hours. I'm either half-asleep, punchy from insomnia, or drunk.
 
I'm indifferent to the threads in question being archived.
 
LET'S ARCHIVE EVERYTHING AND START OVER FROM SCRATCH!
