Everytime I start storing things neatly out of sight in drawers and boxes I forget about them and end up buying a goddamn repalcemnt for something I had all along.
This is a true phenomenon, and deserves serious and helpful answers.
Yes indeed, desk crap and even a "to-do" list in general can reach such proportions as to be overwhelming, at which point the person responsible just says "fuck it" because they don't know where to start and it looks like they will never finish.
It's imperative to not let stuff get that bad in the first place. If you're already there...the only alternative is to buckle down, break the projects into smaller pieces with the most important stuff on the top of the pile, get rid of all distractions, shut off the computer or at least don't load the browser with your favorite online thing to do and just get to it.
For me clutter isn't an option. I use a heavy amount of applications from web development software, video audio and image editing software and a whole host of other apps and having it all haphazardly strewn across the desktop would be too much to bear.
