Captain Planet vs. Power Rangers

Both suck. PR sucks less. Captain Planet iz easily defeatable. All U have to do iz throw polluted water at him, & he sucks. Spray some Lysol, he's out.

Toei company in Japan produces several lines of shows. "Toku" shows are your niche (one man in a power suit) shows like Ultraman, Spectreman, and even Spiderman that feature one man who is called on by humans to save them from some monster or force.

Then there is "Kamen Rider" which is a group of shows that feature between 1-3 people who fight evil, and are based of of insects. They usually ride some form of motorcyle. Only one of these shows made it to america, "Masked Rider", but it was cancelled after one season.

"Mecha" shows are always animated. They feature a team of machines with human like personalities that often can cahnge shape and sometimes join together. Examples of these are Voltron and Transformers. Many of these shows have been dubbed and brought to the US.

"Sentai", which I consider myself an expert on, are the basis of Power Rangers: A group of 3 to 5 (the latest season in Japan had eight people) can "henshin" into a armored warrior, of multiple colors, and they call on larger assault vehicles to fight monsters. The shows started in 1975 and ran succesively each year. In 1992, Saban Industries converted the 1991 Sentai series, "Zyuranger" by casting american actors and removed the darker elements from the plotline, into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and up until Time Force he kept the show going. Starting with Wild Force, he sold all his assets in PR to Disney, who has been producing the show ever since. Disney severely neuters the show by removing all occult references, and changing plotlines so nobody dies. They also refilm some footage to remove blood, and any blows to the head or face. Among Sentai fans, PR is looked down on, and on many of the Sentai boards I post at, even saying the words "Power Rangers" is a permabanning offense. (I've been baned from 2 already)

For every one of these genre of shows, each year a new team or person takes over for the previous year version, and a new "theme" is used each year. Most of these franchises have been running continously in Japan since the 70's, and unlike the US, they are geared towards a much older audience. Sentai/PR, and especially Toku shows in Japan regularly feature sex, nudity, profanity, blood, and the gruesome deaths of major characters. More often than not, the shows end with major characters sacrificing themselves, or being killed by the villian.

That was BlazerBoy, our technical news correspondent and fact-finding guy.

And now back to our battle. Captain Planet has destroyed yet another giant ranger robot while the male Planeteers have tied up the pink ranger and appear to be running a train on her. Most interesting.
