What's with all the scams on Facebook?

(Umm, I don't know, I haven't checked facebook for ages. How do I know if I'm scamming people and how do I stop it?)

You probably gave permission to some malicious application to use your account, or something. Dunno whether it's fixable, but you can get a free iPad!

Those things generally aren't down to user fault, but a hack in Facebook's software that allocates it to random friends in your list. I've had nothing from Wacky.
