The captain's leg smelled like wood and soot. He rubbed it off, but I could still smell it in the hairs. I didn't mind.
Until it got in the quarters then it was all I could smell. The smell would be there for days, weeks, the whole year.
We finally got rid of the leg after the captain had been deceased for some time.
