Cassie (aka Summer Reading 2008)

curiousa2z

Be patient till the last.
too bad that Dune Discussion thread is archived so I couldnt bump it. Was very interesting and drew alot of peeps into the discussion.

are we gonna try for a book club over the summer?
have you got any book (s) lined up to read right now?

Oh yeah, recommend me some books too, because I'm all out.

(I reserve the right to ignore your suggestions and simply buy whichever Christopher Tolkien "stuff I found in my dead dad's sock drawer!" books I haven't read yet.)

C. Tolkien is a prat, sorry to say.

George R R Martin Song of Ice and Fire series.
5 thumbs up.

Kinky Friedman (formerly of Kinky Friedman and the Texas Jewboys) writes some great mysteries

Yes, great books. Some of us have already read those and we're waiting for Dance with Dragons to come out. Amazon says Sept of this year, but I'm not holding my breath :rwmad:

curiousa2z, I'd love to have some kind of group book thing with you guys. I have no idea what we should read though. Right now I've still got family visiting and will be for about 2 more weeks. If you think of something just tell me and I'll order it.

OH OH.. just thought of one possibility. I've been meaning to read The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

!! I haven't read The Road. OK, let's try that in a coupla weeks when the fambly's gone! :D

p.s. all you bratty boyz who posted are welcome to join our newly formed (this minute)MF BOOK CLUB! We will start reading it in 2 weeks...discussions to ensue. NO Yub, we dont need no stinkin cat memes.

ppss: it's the kind of club one joins, not the kind one hits ducks with.

If one were a MOFO dirty duck hitter, that is.

Awesome! I'll order it today.

At least Christopher Tolkien only publishes stuff his father actually wrote...he doesn't make up new shit.

I was just going to read Anthony Bourdain's books, and maybe re-read HP 6 & 7.

I've started Bourdain's A Cook's Tour, but haven't picked it up in a few days...

LOL!

I'm thinking of translating Hunters of Dune into lolcat speak. Probably have to buy a copy of the book first.. dammit.

SO NO ONE'S got any recommendations for me?

You could get The Road, and read it too! I've heard a lot of good things about it. OH and did you ever read The Left Hand of Darkness? I think I told you about that one last year, but I don't remember if youever said anything about it.

Yes. That was the one with the gender confusion and sledding?

Yeah, lol.

What kind of books do you feel like reading right now? Fantasy or sci fi.. or do you care which?

Don't relaly give a duck.

Have you read Perdido Street Station by China Mieville yet? It think it's steampunk.. it was weirdly good. In places it was a bit slow going though, still a really interesting story.

If you're in the mood for some epic fantasy, try The Twins by Gary Wassner. It's the first book in his GemQuest series, and it may be the first book he ever got published. The book was really good, but I haven't read the rest of the series yet. Sometimes he uses way too many words, but hopefully he gets better as he gets more experience writing.

I DON'T KNOW, TOO MUCH PRESSURE.
