CASSIE VERSUS THE HURRICANE THREAD

SHE'S OKAY! Her friend Eyes High posted at the other board:

------------------------

Just got off the phone speaking with Cassie. SHE IS OKAY!!!

No power, but she has seen some Electric Repair trucks on her street. House survived, some damage to an outside structure and limbs down in the yard of course but otherwise things are looking good considering.
All are okay, just ready for when they can take a shower again.

I promised her I would let y'all know as soon as I got off the phone with her.

P.S. No signs of zombies yet.

UPDATE today from Cassie's friend:

"Just got off the phone with Cassie. She said her power just came back on today so she has water and is looking forward to a nice bath or shower.

Still no internet or house phone but at least they have running water again. She said to tell y'all that after she showers, she will turn on the A/C, turn on the TV and watch her Star Treks."

That part was odd, because for much of Florida, the phone lines are underground and not on poles because of WELL THIS. You would think internet would be the same way...WE SHALL SEE.

MY INTERNET IS BACK! I wasn't expecting the internet when I woke up.

I have to clean up some mess in the house, the freezer thawed out and leaked. I just wanted to tell you all that I am ok, I took a shower, I watched the Star Treks!

I love you all. I'll tell you about the hurricane later.

I wish you guys could have seen the stars. I'm pretty sure I could see the Milky Way! It hasn't been dark enough to see stars like that since I was a little kid.

OK I HAVE A HURRICANE TRUE STORY.

Sunday night before the power went out, my mom was Facebooking. She saw an article that said people were pretending to be with TECO (the power company in Tampa) and knocking on doors to get inside and rob people. She read the story out loud, and immediately my brother and stepfather started loading their guns. Then my stepfather walked around outside with his. AS IF THESE THIEVES WERE GOING TO SHOW UP HERE OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE. At one point he was trying to sweep ants off the front porch with one hand and hold a gun in the other. I'm surprised any of us lived past childhood.

The phone lines (and internet) are buried, but the power went out over the entire area all at once. I think they shut if off on purpose to keep people from getting hurt by downed power lines. The phone and the internet uses electricity just not much on the user's end. If the hubs were without electricity then they couldn't run. I didn't think my landline would stop working, since it usually works when the power is out, but I've had a few days to think about it!

I talked to my brother last night (he works for Pike Electric) and asked him if they turned the power off before the storm and he said no, so my theory is wrong! But the power did go off all at the same time in a huge area so where ever the phones go lost power, which is why the landlines were down.
