Change the Board Forum Names

Oh, I've skimmed the basic history, if not all the specifics (I haven't heard of 'Viola' --if there's a story there I'd love to hear it).

Anyway, it happens all the time: Messageboard can't deal with a certain chaotic element; becomes draconian; foments a revolution that either a) comes to power and starts the whole cycle over again, or b) fissions off to form their own board and...starts the whole cycle over again. :phpneutral: It's when the renegade cell tries to invade another cell (even a related one) that things start to get interesting. This happens all the time too, granted, but TK is nothing if not resilient to invasive forces --most of the members that came after the TrekBBS-old-guard are remnants of those invasions that decided to stick around. This place has an absorption quality you don't see in too many other places, while at the same time giving no truck to those who don't fit in. Ask the douchemops at Comicon or Flamechamps how it worked out for them.

Speaking of names, was Wordforge started by aspiring writers, or what?

Like WF, TK started off as a TBBS spinoff board. One of it's main draws early on was 'Leaked BR Threads.' Someone would either give Executer access, or he (if it was just one person, I honestly don't know) would guess passwords and DL the Mod Only forum at TBBS. Also I remember at least one REALLY good chat transcript.

He hosted it on a french host viola that refused to answer any of Lisa's emails demanding the copyrighted material be taken off. IIRC they claimed to not speak English! :lol: This REALLY pissed off TPTB over there.

I think the difference being:

1) TK was created as Refugee Board to begin with.

2) Being that we are siblings, many of us are not only familiar with TK, but have been here quite a while.

3) Are not trying to take over anything. This is no invasion so much as a refugee crisis.

Back when the shit was going down in TNZ that caused the WF exodus, MartoksSweetheart/Cassandra was in the process of creating a writers forum. She basically had everything set up already, she just added the Red Room (although original WF looked a lot different).


That's why, just like the CSM will always have a religion section, so will WF always have a writing section.
 
Volpone you should post the story of WF you wrote up as an answer to that... although it would probably just be TLDR over here. :shrug:

Actually, in a rare moment of detente, Tamar sent it to me. She'd saved it when The Embassy got deleted. :phpup:

That said, on reviewing it, it is very, very tame. Remember, I wrote it for The Embassy, so I had to steer clear of anything too controversial.

And that was fairly early in the Reign of Elwood, before a lot of people formed their present opinions of him and before it really dawned on anyone how he'd gotten the board or the instance of Borgs' permabanning. The subsequent "books", written by other posters (some of which were quite good), are still lost.

A new "book" bringing the whole thing up-to-date would probably take a couple hours. But since it is that or:
1) Pore over corporate websites and apply for jobs, or
2) Shovel another 4" of snow off the car and driveway using a garden shovel,
maybe I'll do something.

I hadn't heard of the host kerfuffle --not bad. Never try to out-blowhard the French. And does copyright even apply to a bunch of m/b posts?

Good points. I've been around at least long enough to have seen several WF diasporas whenever things get hairy over there, and you've always been gracious enough to keep it all in one area --as you've been doing this time (more or less.) I'm fine with the whole "old boys of the board" thing --but when the old boys come out of the smoking room, shuffle into the den and start cutting those horrible, dusty, open-grave farts that only the elderly can generate, just as we're all trying to watch House or Ultimate Fighter, well...let's just say that "respect for one's elders" tends to get shelved, fast.

Believe it or not, you've actually succeeded in getting me mildly interested in the goings-on at WF for what may be the first time ever. It's a shame that I can never spend more than 20 minutes over there to sample the content --the board design quite literally gives me a migraine.

Although I have to split for now...maybe later.

I only know of two characters from that cartoon, her and the Purple Pie man. I had forgotten all about that show until a few years ago when someone at Yahoo adopted the username "Strawberryshortcakesmokespot".

QSF = Ramen's QSF
Troll Playground = Ramen's Lost Puppy & Free Candy Van
The Tea Room = Ramen's Tea and Strumpets
TGFHH = Ramen-Hole
Archair Philospheres = Ramen's Think Tank
Media Center = Ramedia Off-Center
Digital Abyss = Ramen's Digibits
TK Sports = Ramchester United

Hmmm, get rid of everything else. Or whatever.
