Charlotte was told to kill herself

Oh woe is me, a person has been asked to commit suicide on the internet. Fuck, ESAD has told me to DIAF at least five times over the years. So what, as a consequence I should have gone and set my bed on fire or something?

Trolls having power because they're sitting behind a screen? LOL. All the trolled person's gotta do is Log.Out.

As for controlling the internet by laws and regulations - it will happen, of course it will. Actually, I am astounded that the internet is still as free as it is right now. Humans cannot co-exist without laws and regulations, apparently.

Its not about this bullshit at all, its about havig legal means and protections to silence people. Today its the trolls, tomorow its the greenies and dissidents, and next week its your mother for criticising the latest hybrid rose.

Yup. If people cared about bullying, they would make damn sure schools and kindergardens were places no kid has to endure bullying. Or make laws against bosses treating their employees like shit. Or kick out politicians fucking people over ever second of the day, or... yeah.

You have to protect the most vulnerable because not all parents are as great as others.

Making laws against something as unimportant as 'cyberbullies'/trolls is not my definition of protecting the most vulnerable. Teaching them that this is all bloody bullshit with no effect on RL would be. If the parents can't, well, hey, isn't, I dunno, school something that would be a great place to do that? Of course, it might be a bit difficult to squeeze it in between feeding those kids all that shit that poses as education nowadays and then standing by and watching kids bully other kids.

Besides, by that standard, shouldn't we prohibit bars because underaged people could sneak in, and porn because wheee, young people could watch it, and cars because kids could get into accidents in them, or guns because dumbasses accidentally kill themselves and others with them? Every social media, every website fit for children should (and most, I guess, do) has a means to take care of trolls. There is no need whatsoever to involve legislation.

Of course not, silly. The Internet is serious business, you can't just take your ball and go home like that.

Oh I see.

So you're manipulating me to stick around for psychological abuse only to blame me later as a matter of policy. This wouldn't have anything to do with promoting the idea that people have no power to resist doing what they're told by making a big stink out of a few situation where someone seems like they didn't would it? Hell, that'd be trolling one oh one - Cast a net and see what pulls up.

Well that doesn't seem fair but since I can't leave I don't know what else to do.

Vixie tried to talk about my balls. But I think she meant testicles.

Damn, so you've seen right through that, huh? I need to step up my game.

*gasp* OF COURSE NOT!

Hell, that'd be trolling one oh one - Cast a net and see what pulls up.

Yeah... but darling, you and I are no trolls, now are we?

Yep. You really have no other choice. Sorry.

Vixie tried to talk about my balls. But I think she meant testicles.

How sexist of her! Has she at least bought you a drink first?

Of cough we're not trolls.

Is there maybe a TK ombudsman I could talk to or something? I can't remember how to log out.

What does Her Coach, A French Whore, A MILF named Carly, Frankenstein's Monster and a list of synonyms for rote have in common?

Tabs in front of TK in order of importance.

Take that you mean old trolls.

I have to agree with alot you said.

Schools should be accountable and bully free. Parents need to be teaching their kids better coping skills and how to deal with stress. Some Kids today seem to be totally clueless. You would be surprised at the number that have never heard the term coping. It is scary.

As far as not involving legislation. I disagree. There seems to be this total disregard for personal accountability and responsibility. There is a difference if you already are on a troll site and you chose to be a part of a troll community. When you are trolled on social media sites that are not troll sites that people have not asked to be trolled on...that is another matter.

Suicide is not something that can be taken lightly.

Here-in lines the problem...

Define:Trolling

And I'm not speaking about the simple "kill yourself faget".

I'm talking passive aggression. Slight of hand. Triple-black-chocolate-fudge-OPs. Gossiping. Playing stupid (possum).

Ever watch two people discuss politics? Economics? Morality? Religion? Trolling is such a broad term. It's like saying you support world peace. In fact, "anti-trolling" is the new "world peace".

So you figure suicide can be caused or suggested?

Vixie, you do realise that the sites you referred to are a troll within themselves, yeah?
As in, they are the toys of the alphabet boys, created to troll with the precious data thats huslted non stop, around the clock under the illusion of sexy globalised connectivity and the never ending exploitation of irresistable networking opportunities

Like I said.. The troll sites are a different matter. That is where if you go there you accept the terms of service so to speak...because you joined. I am not referring to troll sits SUN. You are not getting what I am saying. When you first discussed this...it wasn't re: troll sites. I was speaking from non-troll social media sites being trolled by trolls. That is a different scenario.

There is a difference, Some people choose to not be ridiculed or shamed. They don't want to be laughed at or discussed in any manner that may cause harm to them by others. Trolling can do that because it causes attention in lots of negative ways. That's all I am saying. Some people do not have the mental strength to accept that kind of hardship. No one has that right to judge them since it is an individual feeling. We all accept things differently. That is what makes us unique. Individuals.

vixie, fwiw, I understood SuN's comments to refer to social media sites as FB and such to be some kind of different troll sites as in harvesters of info to fuck with people on a slightly grander scale than simple one-person-trolls, so I think she got you alright. And just to be clear - I wasn't referring to troll sites, either.

And since I missed this before:

The point is troll forums are for those who choose to troll.

Err, no. Trolling, the 'real' trolling (at least in my personal understanding), is not some game you play with like-minded because you're bored. When done right, it serves a legit purpose by exposing people's /communities' bigotry, double-standards, and failure to stick to their propagated principles - which probably is a reason why a lot of people would just love to have it restricted to a tiny corner of the 'net. It's a part of the internet culture, and trying to use legislature to curb it in is just another attempt by tptb to restrict the 'net's freedom.

As a sidenote - The problem I see not only in this thread is that trolling is lumped together with cyber-bullying these days. Hell, even those who do the bullying often seem to have the impression that they are trolling instead of just being dicks.

Anyway -
facebook has a function to 'unfriend' people. If someone bullies you, unfriend them. Restrict their access to your page. Notify fb admins. If they start talking shit about you on other people's pages - don't read that shit. They use personal info of yours - notify fb, and fuck you for making personal stuff publicly viewable in the first place. Don't know anything about twitter, but I bet there is a similar function, as well. Message boards of any kind - any mb software has an in-built function of banning people. If the admins don't comply to your request - leave the mb.

But if you stay in places where you aren't treated the way you want to, don't go crying to some RL authority when you stop being able to handle it yourself. People seem to think it is their given right to post personal stuff wherever they want and then cry to some authority if it is being misused. That's irresponsibility of the highest order. It's like telling some stranger in a seedy bar your SSN and then be completey surprised if it is used in some scam.

Humans are a shitty species. They love to torture and beat up weak individuals. No legislature will ever be able to stop that, it's in our nature. As sad as it is (hey, I'd like a world without bullies, too), the only way to make sure this doesn't happen to you is to learn to deal with it, or get the fuck outta Dodge. And when it comes to the 'net, you can leave, anytime. Teach that to the kids, and there is no need whatsoever for even more laws.

(Yes, I am aware that there are idiots who take this shit too far and start harassing ppl in RL. There already are laws against RL harrassment, right?)
