I AM A GOLDEN GOD
How does that levitation thing work?

No idea. Illusionists/magicians amazed me when I was a kid, but now in the age of David Copperfield/David Blaine, I don't follow them at all.

criss angel in cirque sucked big time

invisible gnomes.

They answered that question in that old "Magic's greatest secrets revealed" show with Mitch Peledgi and the gimp, but I forget what the explanation was now. Wikipedia prolly knows.

Which levitation trick?

He does several different iterations of the levitation and it's important to explain which one you're talking about.

The most simple levitation is the one where his back is turned or angled away from the camera. In this he uses a fold in his trousers to simply take his leg out, plant it on an object and lift the rest of his body up along with the hollowed trouser leg and shoe.

Very simple stuff. It's an old trick.

Another close proximity levitation uses a metal pole that extends out of the shoe and pushes him up in a pre-designated spot. If the crowd is close enough they are never any the wiser.

When you get in to his more incredible levitations where he goes cruising at altitude and the Luxor Light levitation then it's a bit more complicated.

Criss Angel is notorious for using stooges for a start. Which annoys me because he is a talented magician despite his sometimes pretentious nature and is fully capable of pulling off awesome effects without stooges but the goth teen demographic that worships him and thinks he's really got magic faerie dust shooting out of his ass or is it more...mysterious dark satanic powahs! have to be catered to and are as gullible as they come so stooges are used a lot. Camera tricks as well.

Seriously, when he's floating around golf courses and the like it's wires. They are then edited out later along with whatever is supporting them. It's no more magical than that.

The Luxor light illusion is brilliant and there are lots of conflicting views on how he does it but I think the one that is the most likely is a clear pole/platform that pushes him up. From the ground everyone can watch and with the light angled correctly from the Luxor will never see it.

The close up shots are edited.

That's pretty much it. Not that exciting when you know how, huh?

Still, as I said, he's a good magician and his close up sleight of hand is as good as anyone's so he deserves props there. He does put on a good show most of the time as well.

I always liked this one. Yes, it's very easy to figure out exactly how it's done but it's cool.

But the truth of the matter is that Derren Brown knocks the piss out of him when it comes to being a REAL mindfreak. And he is completely straight up with his audience about what he does as well and never tries to pawn himself off as having real magical powers like Criss.

Editing is cheating.
