Chris Moore is an American novelist who writes VERY FUNNY/ VERY DARK books, including off the top of my head:

The Stupidest Angel, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal ; Coyote Blue, You Suck; (about a reluctant vampire) and, perhaps my favourite, although they each have their merits :
A Dirty Job, about the person who gets Death's job.

I'm sure there'll be something by him at yer local library -check it out!
