City aim to steal coveted striker from under United's nose

Sky Sports News understands that Manchester City have tabled a shock bid for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov.

City's offer for Berbatov is reported to be in excess of £30million and would set a new British transfer record.

The Bulgaria international has been a target for Premier League champions Manchester United throughout the summer, but City have now stepped in with an audacious last-minute move.

Berbatov has been left out of Juande Ramos' plans for the club's last two matches, with the coach feeling his presence was a disruptive influence on the rest of the squad.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson admitted at the end of last week he was unsure if the deal would go through before Monday's midnight deadline.
But talks between the two clubs were believed to be ongoing as the clock ticked down.

However, City have now joined the race and are looking to hijack the move, having earlier sold Vedran Corluka to Spurs.

The news comes on a dramatic day at Eastlands as Abu Dhabi United Group say they have completed their takeover of the club.

News just rolling in now is that the Spuds have ACCEPTED the bid from City.

While I still think it's unlikley that Berba will sign for City we don't know what sort of money these Arabs are going to throw his way to sign. But it's fair to say they will table a massive wage if he does sign.

If this happens it will be the funniest shit ever!

AHAHAHAHA!!!

United have no strike force! Time is slipping and the transfer window closes at Midnight!

Rooney has a great work rate but he's so massivley overhypedc by the media and he hasn't been able to hit the backside of an Elephant when it's needed so that may just be a problem.

Tevez is fantastic but you still need more power up front.

Unless United have to rely on Ronaldo to score another 40 goals for them this season?!!

Will city get him?

We will know by the end of the day but this is still hilarious whatever happens.

Ok, that's all I got. :D

United have matched the bid! They didn't have much choice!

Looks like that should be it then and United will get their man. The next few hours should confirm if that happens or not.

Fucking drama filled last day of the window!

And it ain't over yet!

Spuds lol.

Berba last seen being picked up by Fergie in his Bentley heading towards Carrington training ground.

It's looking good for United but Real have come in with a bid of 36m!

It's quite an obscence amount of money. They should give a million to me so I can rig Big Brother votes.

OMG! Unbelievable money for that guy.
So now we'll have Arab billionaires competing against Russian billionaires competing against..omg...it always boils down to a pissing contest, dunnit?
WILD.

p.s. i thought Man U was out of it because of trying to shanghai B last year?

It's quite funny really. I'm desperate for Arsene Wenger to sign a top quality Midfielder to play with Cesc in the middle (we really haven't replaced Flamini though we have replaced Hleb with Nasri who is much better) but he does not share the concerns of me and most of the Arsenal faithful.

so while every team is throwing INSANE money around making multiple signings Arsene has been charctistcally quiet.

He even went to the fucking Arsenal reserve match today so he isn't sweating much!

Then again Wenger did make his final signing at 11:30pm last year with just half hour to go. But I am not getting my hopes up this time.

That said did you see us against Newcastle the other day? It was an awesome performance. Could have easily been 6-7-nil if it wasn't for a fantastic performance from the Magpies keeper.

Just check out the MOTD highlights if you missed it.

So I'm not too worried. :D

It was because Fergie mentioned his wish to bring Berba to OT. The Spuds went nuts and reported them to the FA.

It seemed like they were desperate to get rid of him to anyone but United even if they lost a few million in the process.

Spuds wanted 30mil originally but United wouldn't budge from 25mil. But with City and Real entering the fray there are reports Berba has rocketed up to 38million!

It's fucking ridiculous.

City are now trying to get the other big transfer story that is Robinho moving to Chelsea. They've apparently just chimed in with a 40million euro bid.

They were linked with David Villa earlier as well.

LOL. CRAZY ARABS.

55 minutes left for Wenger to not buy anybody!

Woo Hoo!

:(

Sweet Zombie Jesus!

LOL.

I love this game. :D

And it's confirmed. Robinho has signed a four year deal with City.

When you consider Chelsea were selling Robinho shirts on their website this week it sinks in what a masssive coup this is.

Truly shocking day.

And no signings from Wenger. Big surprise.

Oh, and United got Dimi.

So this turned into a HAHAH UNITED IN YOUR FACE! thread to a HAHAH CHELSEA IN YOUR FACE! thread?

No doubt both clubs could avoid disappointment this year by winning as many trophies as Arsenal have in the last 3 years.

Oh hang on, wait...

How much money have you both spent compared to Arsenal and how does your footy look compared to ours?

Unless you bring the faithful Ronaldo in to the equation of course.

No matter anyway. United got merked for Berbatov. 31million? 27 years old?

Jesus.

Ramos has got the last laugh by offloading the Incredible Sulk to you lot for 31m, when before City decided to stir the pot United wouldn't budge from 25m, !.

And still the football looks shit! Effective maybe, but still shit!

Who would pay 20+ for Rooney these days?

I'd rather have ineffective strikers, sulking overpaid strikers & be winning trophies. I'd bet if Man Utd offered Wenger Rooney for £20m, he'd take him.

Playing pretty & winning? Who cares. Man Utd play amazing football on their day, anyway.

I bet you anything Wenger wouldn't take Rooney for 20 million. He's BARELY worth 20 million as it is and we have a full strike force and don't need to add to it.

Adebayor/Van Persie/Vela/Eduardo/Bentdner

Fact of the matter is that Rooney is not all he was hyped up to be when he was at Everton. He peaked early and had a good season with United but I don't think many clubs would pay 25+ for him these days.

Arsenal develops talent and loses a lot of talent. We don't just throw stupid amounts of money around for the sake of it. Wenger has future-proofed Arsenal and names like Jack Wilshire and Fran Merida will be the top flight stars of tomorrow. We've had a rocky transitional period which has translated in to three trophyless years, yes.

But we are FULLY capable of winning trophies this year (though I REALLY wanted another Midfielder) just like we are every year. We were very unlucky last season not to win the Prem and it was due to a lack of concentration at the end that cost us.

United are a great team but it will be interesting to see how you do without your wonderkid slave. Best hope Rooney starts honing in on the net a bit more.

Tevez is your best striker and Berbatov is excellent as well so you're not exactly weak upfront. And I think Rooney has an amazing workrate. It's his first touch that is the problem.

I would just warn anyone with writing Arsenal off. Usually not a good idea.

Manchester City asked for Ruud Van Nistelrooy and delivered a blank chèque to the royal club. The chèque was, of course, refused by Real.

Now they want Cristiano Ronaldo for 200 million USD.

This whole debacle is beyond craziness.

They've gone after Torres and Fabregas as well.

It's unbelievable.

What happens when they start offering 200k+ a week wages. How loyal is ANY footballer when that sort of money is being thrown around for kicking a ball?
