Coca Cola Causes Cancer

Then stick to fountain soda. Diet Coke contains aspartame in cans & bottles, but has saccharin in fountain form, because aspartame can't be used that way.

both aspartame and saccharine are, IIRC.
That's why I avoid them as much as possible. Coca-Cola is my addiction, though, so I choose to ignore that fact when I can't get the classic one containing real sugar.

No, it was taken of the list due to MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN BRIBES paid by the Food Trade Industry lobbying groups.

Its as dangerous now as it was in 1958, no matter how many dollars say otherwise. The "studies" proving safety have no data to support it, the studies showing carcinogenic potential in animals were all double blind and controlled.

Isn't that sweet?

not exactly "badly flawed" as in showing wrong results per se, but they had given the rats dosages that were up to a 100fold higher than those of the normal intake by humans. That, and the fact that the composition of rat's urine is different from that of humans led to the conclusion that the study of 1977 isn't applicable to prove the carcinogenic effect.
Later studies were not able to unambiguously prove the effect, either.

Having said that - as with most studies trying to detect carcinogenics, the problem is that cancer is a multi-factor disease. While there are a few clear-cut cases where you can trace the cause of it to one substance, most of the time it takes a few parameters interacting w/ each other to lead to cancer. My personal take in these cases is - avoid the engineered stuff, try to cut back on the natural stuff known to be unhealthy (yeah, that works out well lol), and don't worry to much. But that's just me ;)

They can put cyanide in soda for all I care. Unless they're forcing me to drink it, it's my own damn fault if I do.

I'm responsible for educating myself about what I eat and drink.

As far as 'The Public goes' - The public are stupid cows. And if they believe this apple trees and honeybees bullshit, they get what's coming. Which is oft times cancer -

Men who drink sugar-sweetened beverages, including sodas and non-carbonated fruit drinks, may have a higher risk of heart attack, a new study shows.
Harvard researchers found that men who drank one sugar-sweetened beverage per day had a 20 percent increased risk of heart attack compared to those who eschewed the sugary drinks, according to the study published in the journal Circulation.
And the risk rose with increasing consumption: Two sugary drinks a day was linked to a 42 percent increase in risk, while three was associated with a 69 percent increase.
The researchers also found that sugary drinks were associated with higher levels of inflammatory factors, such as CRP, that are thought to be involved in the development of heart disease.
The bottom line is that Americans need to pay more attention to what they’re drinking, said the study’s lead author, Lawrence de Koning, a research fellow in the department of nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health. “The first thing to do is to reduce the intake of sodas and then eventually eliminate them,” de Koning said.

The new research found no connection between artificially sweetened drinks -- in other words, diet sodas -- and heart disease risk. “But there are probably better choices, such as water, coffee and tea,” de Koning said. Besides, another recently published study did indeed find a link between a daily diet soda and heightened heart attack risks.
This study adds to the accumulating evidence that sugary beverages hurt your health, said Dr. Y. Claire Yang, an assistant professor of health policy and management at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University.
The new report looked at data gathered as part of the Health Professionals Follow-up study, which has been gathering information on 42,883 men for the last 22 years. During that time there were 3,683 heart attacks in the men, some fatal and some not. And although this data set focused solely on men, past research has linked women's soda habits with heart disease, too.
When de Koning and his colleagues looked at sugar-sweetened beverages, they found a strong correlation between sugary drinks and heart attack risk. And that link stayed strong even after the researchers accounted for factors such as smoking, physical activity, alcohol intake, vitamin use, family history and BMI.
And while link doesn’t absolutely prove that sugary drinks increase the risk of heart disease, there is evidence from other studies showing that these beverages have an impact on risk factors, de Koning said. In one study, for example, volunteers who decreased sugary soda consumption experienced a reduction in blood pressure levels, he added.
“At the end of the day,” Yang said, “the best thing to drink is still water.

They (Harvard) found red meat may lead to higher mortality rate among people who are overweight, drink too much, don't exercise, fail to eat fruits and vegetables and smoke cigarettes.

I don't smoke cigarettes, I eat fruits and vegetables, I'm not overweight, I everyday, and I don't drink alcohol.

I eat red meat and I fuck like I mean it. Whatever protein is left after that goes to powering my giant brain. The one my ancestors evolved for me by eating red meat burned in fire off a sharpened stick.

Take that ya' Harvard nancy boys.

If you wanna eat healthy, grow your own fruits, nuts, vegetables, and a selected amount of grains.
Make sure that the seedlings are not genetically altered and that your garden is far away from any conventional farmer, since they use chemicals as well as genetically altered materials.
Test the soil for any heavy metals, nitrate or whatever else might poison you longterm.
Only grow food that doesn't need artificial light or warmth.
Raise your own animals or hunt yourself in order to get meat as well as dairy products if you can't do without.
Deep-freeze only, since any other means of conservation will severly lower the nutritional value of the food.
Eat nothing except stuff you can produce on your own. If you need sweetener, keep bees and use the honey.
Drink only water from a reliable source (from a well, for example), check regularly for any contamination.
Accept the fact that you will have to go through times of hunger, maybe die from starvation if the crop fails.

Anybody else (including myself) - just accept the fact that any edibles we put into our bodies are tampered with and thus not healthy to the point of considerably shortening our life-span. Try to make up your mind about what tampering you can tolerate, and find alternatives for those you can't. Don't whine about the bad companies or society or whatever as long as you happily indulge in lazyness, cigarettes, alcohol, candy, (including soda) or other drugs on a regular basis.

Oh, how I love to preach. *lights another cigarette*

That's just how we do it up here. We're just starting the seedlings now. We get our seeds from High Mowing Seeds, whose factory is in Cabot (sort of) about 40 minutes by car.

They're pure, non gmo. We have very little farming going on anymore. There's one dairy farm left in Lamoille County, and that's an organic one. Most everyone left with any acreage grows sileage corn for their cows and other animals.

We've plotted out 8 food gardens, an herb garden, a bee garden and a sun garden that has some food mixed in. We have about an acre of land with the house, so it works out pretty well.

This year we're going to repeat what we did last year. Broccoli, zucchini, tomatillos/tomatos (about 15 rows of each this year), lemon cucumber, 8 different kinds of hot peppers, pumpkin, melon, chives, carrots, lettuce (2 kinds, romaine and butter leaf. I have two apple trees, blueberries (we have 6 full grown bushes coming up this year, and whetever else you can stick in the dirt and grow up here. Got a nice freezer, so will be overproducing to put some up. Frozen blueberries in the summer go without saying.

So, I agree.
