Nah, in a year they'll be on Generation 2. If you look at the iPhone, there isn't that much that's changed featured-wise in three years: the Edge network was upgraded to 3G, then 3GS, a GPS was added, the and the 8GB model dropped in price after two years. Where the real innovation is occurring every year, the iPhone's software, well, you can upgrade that on the older models so that you aren't lagging behind.

smart ass reply, i know, but emailing yourself PDFs was the only way to get data on the device during the first year. if you have a gmail (or any other IMAP account) you just create a "Documents" folder in your IMAP tree and email documents to yourself, then access them on the phone.

oh sure, as big as your email host will allow. gmail is effectively unlimited, so if you have a 100MB PDF you can mail it to yourself, move it into an appropriate folder, then check that folder on the phone, see the document there, download it, and it will be cached on the phone file system from there on out.
