FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Flagstaff police arrested three people after the death of a 6-year-old boy, the department announced Monday.
Anthony Jose Archibeque-Martinez, 23, Elizabeth Archibeque-Martinez, 26, and Ann Marie Martinez, 50, were all booked into the Coconino County Jail for first degree felony homicide and two counts of child abuse.

Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child Monday around noon. Officers immediately began life-saving efforts until medical personnel arrived.
The child was pronounced dead on scene.
Flagstaff PD detectives interviewed members of the family residing in the residence with the child and a search warrant was conducted.
Police say the child appeared malnourished. There were no obvious signs of trauma.

The parents of the 6-year-old boy admitted the child and his 7-year-old brother, who police say also appeared malnourished, were kept in the bedroom closet and denied food at times.
The parents told detectives the boys were kept in the closet because they were stealing food, sneaking out at night while the parents slept, police say.
According to police, the parents estimated the children had been kept in the closet for about one month.
The grandmother told detectives she was aware of the condition the children were kept in and she, too, disciplined the kids when they stole food, according to police.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and pending the medical examiner’s report for manner of death findings.
The Department of Child Safety confirmed that the child's siblings are currently in their care.
There was a prior DCS report involving the Archibeque-Martinez family from Feb. of 2013 involving two allegations of abuse, DCS said. The allegations were unsubstantiated, and after the parents agreed and took part in voluntary in-home services, the case was closed.
"We ask that if you reasonably suspect that a child is being abused or neglected report it to DCS at 888-SOS-CHILD (888-767-2445)," the department stated. "Your information will be kept confidential."

William Byron wins virtual Bristol; Bubba Wallace 'rage quits'

William Byron led the most laps in NASCAR's first two virtual races but had nothing to show for his gaming skills. The third time out, he got the win. Byron easily won the iRacing event Sunday at virtual Bristol Motor Speedway, where NASCAR would have been racing had the coronavirus pandemic not caused sports to shut down. "Some things are different, but a lot of things are similar, and this is a racetrack I've always enjoyed coming to," Byron said. "It's fun to have some pressure on iRacing. I usually just run it to have some fun and get better." NASCAR changed the format this week and started with single-car qualifying to set the field for a pair of 50-lap heat races. Those heat races determined the starting order. Byron started from the pole and was never challenged. The entertainment came from the drivers, most of whom streamed their gaming experiences for fans to eavesdrop on the action and the arguing. Clint Bowyer was the in-race reporter and again delivered a hilarious performance.

Commissioner Adam Silver does not expect to make any decisions on NBA season until at least May
Commissioner Adam Silver said Monday night that he has told people in the NBA that there will be no way for the league to make a decision about when it can return until May 1 at the earliest -- and probably not even then. "Essentially what I've told my folks over the last week is we should just accept that at least for the month of April, we won't be in a position to make any decisions," Silver said in an interview with TNT's Ernie Johnson aired on the NBA's Twitter page. "I don't think that necessarily means that, on May 1, we will be [in that position], but at least I know that just to settle everyone down a little bit.
"It doesn't mean that, internally, both the league and discussions with our players and the teams we aren't looking at many different scenarios for restarting the season, but I think it honestly is just too early, given what's happened right now, to even be able to project or predict where we will be in a few weeks."

NBA, players union assessing potential COVID-19 rapid-test options

In recent weeks, officials within the NBA and NBPA have been collaborating in assessing the viability of multiple blood-testing devices for the coronavirus that could provide accurate results within a matter of minutes, a process that would hopefully enable the league to track the virus in what is considered a critical first step toward resuming play in the near future. Multiple league sources close to the situation said the league and players union have been looking at what those familiar with the matter describe as "diabetes-like" blood testing in which someone could, with the prick of a finger, be tested quickly, and results could be gained inside of 15 minutes.
