University of Houston suspends workouts after six student-athletes test positive
Houston is the first school to suspend athletic activities after bringing student-athletes back to campus following a shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

On June 3, Iowa State had announced that a part-time student worker in the athletic department had tested positive for the coronavirus, and four athletes were experiencing symptoms. The university said the student worker notified the athletic department of the positive test.

The University of Houston has suspended voluntary workouts for all student-athletes after six symptomatic student-athletes in various sports tested positive for the coronavirus as the Houston area has seen a recent surge of positive tests. In a statement Friday, the UH athletic department said it was suspending the activities "out of an abundance of caution." The school said the symptomatic student-athletes had been placed in isolation and contact tracing proced cures have been initiated. Houston did not test all athletes when they returned to campus, only those who showed symptoms of having the coronavirus, according to the Houston Chronicle. Any athlete having a temperature above 100.2 degrees, the current guideline set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was immediately put into isolation, evaluated by team doctors and quarantined until test results come back, according to the Chronicle. Houston is the first school to suspend athletic activities after bringing student-athletes back to campus following a shutdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Two football players among 10 Iowa State athletes testing positive for COVID-19

Ten Iowa State student-athletes, including two football players, have tested positive for the coronavirus, the university's athletic department confirmed on Friday. None of the student-athletes were participating in team activities at the time they were exposed to the virus, according to a statement released to ESPN. Since May 28, all 147 members of the football program, including staff, have been tested amid the COVID-19 pandemic. "Iowa State's Athletic Department is taking a number of precautions and has protocols for contact tracing as well as isolation to limit the spread of illness," the statement read. "The university feels strongly about balancing the privacy of our student-athletes and being transparent as well as avoiding speculation on case numbers." Sources: One unidentified Buccaneers assistant tests positive for COVID-19

One of Tampa Bay's assistant coaches has tested positive for the coronavirus and two other Buccaneers assistants have been quarantined, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The one unidentified Buccaneers assistant who tested positive is asymptomatic, sources said. The news comes just days after Tampa Bay coach Bruce Arians and his staff returned to the team's training center in Tampa for the first time since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. General manager Julien BriseBois said in a statement that the players have been self-isolating and "are asymptomatic other than a few cases of low-grade fever." Other players and staffers who have been at the facility are being tested. The Lightning and NHL will figure out how to proceed based on the results of those tests.

Canada to allow NHL to play during pandemic
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland announced Friday that the nation's top public health officer, and health officials in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario had signed off on the NHL plan. The NHL is targeting July 10 to open training camps, with games being played without fans present starting in late July or early August.
