Indianapolis Colts' Carson Wentz, Ryan Kelly, Zach Pascal placed on reserve/COVID-19 list

Colts quarterback Carson Wentz, Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly and receiver Zach Pascal have been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the team announced Monday. The three players were placed on the COVID-19 list after coming in close contact with a Colts staff member who tested positive, a source told ESPN's Dan Graziano. The players can return in five days if they continue to have negative tests and remain asymptomatic. The fact that the three players were placed on the list as close contacts is an indication they are not vaccinated for the coronavirus as, per NFL protocols, vaccinated players would only be placed on the list for a positive test result. The Colts have had one of the lowest percentages of vaccinated players in the NFL. It's something that irked owner Jim Irsay before the start of training camp.

Las Vegas Aces' Liz Cambage in health and safety protocols after testing positive for COVID-19

Las Vegas Aces center Liz Cambage tested positive for COVID-19 and has been placed in the WNBA's health and safety protocols, the team announced Wednesday. According to the Aces, Cambage is fully vaccinated and experiencing mild symptoms. She will isolate until she is cleared to return to play. Cambage, 30, is averaging 14.7 points and 8.4 rebounds for the 19-7 Aces, who host the Chicago Sky at 10 p.m. ET Thursday on NBA TV and then travel to Chicago for a 3 p.m. ET game Sunday on ABC. In March 2020, Cambage wrote on Instagram that she thought she contracted COVID-19 in December 2019 while playing in China. She said she was told then that it was a "viral infection," one that resulted in a brief hospitalization. Cambage said she still felt the effects of the illness for more than a month. She did not play in the WNBA's bubble in Bradenton, Florida, last season as she received a medical exemption.

Dallas Cowboys OG Zack Martin tests positive for COVID-19, out for Thursday opener vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Dallas Cowboys will be without Zach Martin for Thursday's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the six-time Pro Bowl right guard tested positive for the coronavirus and landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Because of the return-to-play protocols, Martin will not be cleared in time to play, although he is vaccinated. Miami Dolphins OL Austin Jackson, TE Adam Shaheen hit reserve/COVID-19 list

The Miami Dolpkins placed offensive lineman Austin Jackson and tight end Adam Shaheen on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, sources told ESPN's Field Yates, potentially leaving them short-handed as the team prepares for its Week 1 game against the New England Patriots. The Dolphins confirmed the moves Monday and also elevated cornerback Jamal Perry as a COVID-19 replacement. Jackson started 12 games as a rookie in 2020 after being selected 18th overall by the Dolphins. He was slated to once again start at left tackle for Miami this season. For Shaheen, who came to Miami via trade last offseason, this marks a second stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list in as many months after he was deemed a close contact in August.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick says vaccines alone won't solve all problems

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick clarified his remarks on vaccinations Monday, saying even though the team would be better off if everyone was vaccinated, it wouldn't solve all problems. Belichick's comments came five days after he said quarterback Cam Newtons's vaccination status wasn't a factor in his release. At the time, Belichick had noted that "a pretty high number" of vaccinated players, coaches and staff members have been infected by COVID-19 in training camp. The NFL previously announced that 68 players and staff tested positive for COVID-19 out of 7,190 tested individuals during a three-week stretch from Aug. 1-21. The rate of positive tests among unvaccinated NFL personnel was seven times higher than the rate of positive tests among vaccinated personnel, according to the league.
