Day of the Triffids

I want to smell dark matter
Shit so far.

And why does EVERYTHING need a global warming subplot now?

Stellar Cast, but it's lost me after a mere 15 minutes. I've turned it over to watch the Not the Nine O'Clock News Tribute Show.

Brian Cox, Joely Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard & Jason Priestley, along with Ewen Bremner & Dougray Scott. I wonder how much of our cash The Beeb put into those alone?

Global Warming is the new buzz word I guess.

It got a bit better in the end when Eddie Izzard was being all evil and stuff. But the triffids themselves weren't very impressive or scary.

No, they weren't. It annoyed me because they obviously spent a lot of money on it and it had the seeds of a good story, but there were too many elements that were either really stupid and annoying (like the main character coincidentally being blown off his feet by the main antagonist's plane crashing), or just plain ripped off from other movies and tv shows (solar flares and all the 28 Days Later shots).

I reckon it was funded in part by some US network, though. I'd like to think that British writers would know not to feature every London policeman carrying a gun.

Well, to be fair, 28 Days Later ripped off Day of the Triffids first.

Yeah, but I mean specific shots. There was one on Westminster Bridge that was similar beyond coincidence. Eddie Izzard's method of surviving the plane crash was pretty original, though.

IS IT ON AGAIN TONIGHT?

Yes, the second and final part.

Yeah, it concludes tonight in another 1 1/2 hour episode.

Maybe I'll watch it.

Part two was better than part one, I thought.

I liked it. The characters were still annoyingly clumsy and the dialogue could be bad from time to time, but it was well acted, it had some great visuals and it was entertaining. I'd probably watch it again if it was ever on.

Maybe a prequel series about AFRICANS fighting Triffids in AFRICA.
