The definition of freedom that's stuck with me is one that I learned in sixth grade--freedom means responsibility. In particular, self-responsibility of staying out of things you know you don't like and letting people enjoy themselves.

Actually, that is almost true. Problem is, it is the citizens that vote stuff in to take away the rights of other people.

In my little city, you can't have wildflowers in your yard unless you get a permit from the City. And, on the City's website, you can sign up to take a class to learn how to turn in your neighbors for code violations. Did somebody move me to Nazi Germany without telling me? I think I'm going to get drunk, spend 5 hours hooking up the webcam, and bitch about that.
