Does anyone here know a mystical old black woman?

CaptainWacky

I want to smell dark matter
They exist on tv and in movies, so surely there must be some in real life? If you've had a conversation like this...

Old Black Woman: A storm is coming, child.
You: But the weather's fine!
Old Black Woman: I don't mean that kind of storm, child.

You may well know a mystical old black woman.

A tv trope, indeed.

There's one in

Jeepers Creepers
True Blood
Doctor Who

What else?

If someone can see the future but only in ways that don't actually effect the plot, like say only being able to see "the darkness coming" or "a shadow coming" or something, there's a good chance they might be a mystical old black woman!

i know a mystical black business woman, but our conversations are more like:

Woman: That proposal reminded me of another time, another place.
Me: When you used mainframes, instead of RAID arrays and tape backup?
Woman: No.

What about Elosha in BSG? She couldn't tell the future, but she could interpret events and guide the characters with the help of a really old book. That's got to count for something.

agreed.

Oprah?

all i know is that old black ladies are magical, and i treasure any time i get with them.

I've known my share.

LOL - Fuddlemiff, you must've posted that as I was typing mine out - honestly, it wasn't up when I wrote my question. OR, there was a SPACE TIME CONTINUUM THINGY.

As shown in the Matrix, they can also change their looks, but still be mystical old black ladies with a different face.

Shut up, Beulah!

There's also the less impressive Mystical Old Black Man.

"WALK WITH THE PROPHETS, BROTHER BENNY."

They just get told to move along.

Yeah, Tony Todd's character in the Final Destination movies is a mysterious, all-knowing black guy who explains the bits of the plot that would otherwise leave the audience scratching their heads.

I just watched the first episode of Community (good show! :)) and there was this line:

"Oh, I'm sorry, I was raised on tv and I was conditioned to believe that every black woman over 50 is a cosmic mentor."

HOW DID ROSE KNOW JOHN WAS PARALYSED?

(She saw him in a wheelchair at the airport.)

Rose isn't mystic, she just sassy.

"Yo better know yourself, Red! Yeah, ya bitch, you hearing me right. Fuck you!"
