Does facebook monitor messages?

I was sending a friend a link today and before I could send the message facebook asked me one of those things where you have to type the words you see on the screen.

I have never seen that before on there.
 
It's just a captcha designed to prove you're a human being and not a spam bot sending Facebook messages to everyone about a range of new hats.
 
What Tom said, but also, it's kind of an open secret that Facebook employees do spy on peoples' private messages for giggles.
 
ofc they do....that is the whole design of the thing; have u read the terms and conditions?
It is designed to collect information of the public, in a voluntary manner.
