One of them just barked at something outside but I don't know what.

oooh pretty dogs! This breed needs a lot of exercise, though. They were bred to run around 18 hours a day, herding sheep, and they are highly intelligent. Kept as house dogs they need regular loooong walks, lots of playing and plenty of entertainment (e.g. teaching them new tricks), else they get fat and neurotic.
