Eggs Mayonnaise is taking a break from the board

Harry will co-star in an endearing sitcom as the wife of a crusty but loveable beekeeper (Geoffrey Palmer).

Not much of a break since u r always still here Eggs!;) Not that i'm CUMplainin' or anything.:)

Finished the book. What a downer. I already knew the big spoiler, but I didn't expect the whole proceeding to be so gloomy and fatalistic.

Does Rowling even remember that she started this as a children's series?

Here's what I wrote.
About the Harry Potter concern.

I'm seeing it a little differently.
How many pages is the entire series?
How many kids have now read 2,3,4,5 times the amount of material than they normally would have?

I am for kids reading. I teaches them language skills. Spelling, Vocabulary, there are some pretty big words in there.
I see the books as fiction. no more dangerous than fairy tales. Decently written and engaging.

But the point is, these kids have read more because of these books. The are now that much more literate.
I approve of children reading and literacy.

Can you imagine, kids actually Willing and eager to read a thousand pages?
I find that miraculous.

I really hope the "Harry commits suicide" rumours aren't true, because then kids will start killing themself because Harry did it. :(

I never listen to rumours. and I doubt she'd write such an asinine ending for what is a series that bottom line has been written for kids.*
She's a mother herself.

( *even though adults can and do enjoy the books too).

Well it didn't stop her having SNAPE RAPE HERMIONE ON PAGE 348.

OMG!! SPOILERS! OMG WOT HAVE U DONE WACKY! IM FREAKING OUT!

(I'll show HIM - I wont read p. 348!)

If Half-Blood Prince is a kid's book, then so is The Shining.

I would pay good money to see Harry Potter boiled alive in rancid dog vomit.

eww

WHO WILL PLAY PROFESSOR SLUGO (OR WHATEVER HE WAS CALLED) IN THE HALF BLOOD MOVIE?

well.....it is darker than the earlier books ,( although finding out at age 11 your parents were murdered and that a super evil wizard's minions would like to murder you too is pretty dark itself) but let me throw some thoughts out:
she has carried the progression from 11 - year old Harry along each successive year - she always said she'd write seven books - so stopping when he's no longer a minor, ie. 18. Darker and more complicated as things progress, yes. I think she's caught the moodiness, emo and vacillations of adolescence beautifully with her metaphors.
But consider:
Are Grimm's fairy tales for children inspite of the fact that they have some pretty gruesome story lines?

IMHO Yes. Kids are far more resiliant at facing the "monsters" than people give them credit for.
But I don't recall suicide being one of the topics in Grimms'...there's no recourse after suicide, there's no hope in suicide.

....but one theme all fairy tales do have is the protagonist(s) ultimately prevailing/solving a problem after suffering/ enduring tribulations. I think that theme will continue with the last installment of Harry Potter.

How do you know Geoffrey Palmer?

He's slept with him.

Same way I know Penelope Keith -- American Public TV.

Eggs is exceedingly cool. :)

And, here is their response.
Dear friend,

Please get a copy of the book, "Exposing Harry Potter and Witchcraft."
There are several chapters, "The Charm: Johnny is Reading a Book!" and
"The Spell: It is Only Fiction!," which are devoted to answering your
arguments. Also, you may not have considered the issues Steve addresses
in the chapters, "The Potion: Mixing Fantasy with Reality" and "The
Evidence: Potter Fans Turn to Witchcraft."

It is not enough that the kids are reading.

With respect and care,
Aaron Roberson

Shit.. so that's why all the kids at Wal*Mart were waving their wands at me. THE LITTLE BASTARDS.
