In the TV series 'Lost', Evangeline Lilly plays a character stranded on an island without a home. Now the actress herself has been left homeless after her rented house was destroyed by fire.
The blaze at the 27-year-old's Hawaii home broke out at 6.30am on Wednesday morning. Lilly shares the residence with two of the show's female crewmembers while working on the series, but none of the three were present at the time.
"Unfortunately, it is true that the home she rented in Hawaii did burn down this morning," said the actress' publicist Cara Tripicchio.
"Evangeline was on set already when the fire occurred and luckily, her roommates were not in the house either," the rep added.
"Thankfully, everyone is safe."
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, although fire investigators were combing through the remains.
Dominic Monaghan, the 'Lord of the Rings' actor who co-stars with Lilly in 'Lost', also investigated the damage when he visited the home. The British actor, who is dating Lilly, refused to comment.
According to Kenison Tejada, a Honolulu fire captain, the home was beyond saving when firemen arrived on the scene.
"When we arrived the house was fully engulfed. It was a complete loss," he said.
The fire department received an alarm call at 6.43am and arrived six minutes later.
"We stopped the fire from spreading. It took us maybe 15 to 20 minutes to knock down the main body of fire.
"The only thing standing was the roof and a couple of the interior walls. Most of the contents had been destroyed. The home was pretty much destroyed and uninhabitable."
The Canadian actress had previously spoken of pride about the home she'd moved into two years ago when filming on 'Lost' began.
She had spent a lot of time and money on her "sweet, little bungalow" on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
"My home is my castle, and I spend a lot of time nurturing it, redecorating, moving this and adjusting that, adding flowers and candles," she had previously said of the home situated in the town of Kailua.
"I'm rearranging furniture and taking down paintings and putting up new ones, and buying new pieces of art. I love my home. It's the only thing I really spend money on," she had said.
Of the fire, a neighbour, Morgan Janus, explained: "I woke up to my dogs barking."
"There were loud popping sounds, like something electrical," he told the Honolulu Advertiser.
Jorge Duarte told the paper that he broke the door's glass to check if someone was inside, before the fire department arrived. When he was greeted by black smoke, he joined several other neighbours in hosing down the house.
Ironically, the character Lilly plays in the series, Kate Austen, has an incident involving a burning home in her past.
The actress has just been nominated for a Golden Globe award for the part.
Her ass is so smoking hot it's a fire hazard!
