FACT: Weddings are a money pit

That's just amazing, if there were more hours in the day I'm sure I could be more resourceful but I just don't have the time.

I am going to bargain hunt for certain things but it is my one and only wedding, my parents can chip in a few bucks here and there and I just want to not have to obsess so much. I have OCD, planning a wedding is not condusive to my sanity.

I seriously don't know how people can dump so much money on a one day event and not stay married forever. Just the fact that I'm going to pay nearly $6,000.00 for a beautiful facility and to feed 23 people chicken is enough to keep me working on my marriage for life.

That six grand doesn't include, my dress, the officiant, the photographer, the DJ, the cake, the tux, the flowers or special decorations. It is un-fucking-believable how much this thing costs.

My dad said I should get married at City Hall and have a $6,000.00 honeymoon...The man has a point.

Getting married in Las Vegas is Great. I hear you can get both Married (and Divorced) there in all in one day.... for less than $100 too!

That does sound lovely and so cozy and I'm sure if you budget, budget, budget you'll be able to do it with just a couple grand.

Congratulations!

I hope so. She doesn't think her parents will put up much $, so it will mostly be us. I'll make decent once we are married (Army will basically double my pay) but at the moment things are kinda tight. I wish I had known this was coming up when I got back instead of blowing most of my deployment savings (on her ironically! ).

Does she take it up the ass for you?

Elope.

Cheap, easy, fun, AND private. :D

Spoken like my father.

I'm not looking for private and neither is my family. Not that I owe my family a wedding but I am the youngest grandchild on my mom side of the family and believe it or nor they do all want to see me get married.

It's a big deal, I have cousins in their 50's that have been married since before I was born and their kids are my age have gotten married and divorced and then remarried.

My getting married is kind of a big deal.

I bet it is :D

^^Oh if only I were so pretty but alas, I am not.

Downpayment has been delayed but I'm still hoping to get February 14, 2009 in a few weeks when funds are available. Now I'm just trying to find a decent, relatively inexpensive reception site. So far Maggiano's is in the lead $3,000.00 for lunch plus an open bar, sounds good to me.

My brother had an all out fancy wedding, it was high dollar and my bro was 19 and his wife was 16 and a little pregnant. LOL

Everyone thought it was a waste and doomed to fail...

that was 27 years ago and they fooled everyone.

I wish you all the best LG , keep that man happy. :)

I will always do my best, that I can promise.

And thank you very much.

A 6000$ budgeted wedding is still a modest one. I have attended many Grands mariages, which budgets exceeded 50 K.

As have I and those just seem like a waste of epic proportions.

The budget is more like $15,000.00 but my parents are kicking in about $5,000.00. Truth be known when my mom starts getting into it she'll kick in more.

Whoever you're marrying, I hope the both of you stay together and set an example for the rest of todays youth ;)

Well, if the example is wait until you're in your 30's to get married, we're on it.

I'm 34 (35 in April) and he's 36 (37 in July).

I guess it would be considered a civil ceremony, we're being married by the offcient provided in the package at Bellagio.

I'd love to have the Episcopal Rite of Marriage but it's very long and would cost a fortune to do at the Bellagio, especially on Valentine's Day.
