Favourite bands

Big Dick McGee

If you don't know, now ya know
We here at TK are a mighty eclectic bunch, I'm sure this will elicit all types of interesting responses. What I'd like to know are your 5 (or 10, or 20, etc) favourite bands. Could be favourite now, fave all time, whatever. I know mine evolves every few years. The band doesn't even have to be active right now. Just a group whose music you can return to time and time again.

Notice I didn't say "best bands", as that's far to subjective. Ok, so here are mine, pretty much in order:

1. No Doubt
2. Alice in Chains
3. Pearl Jam
4. Metallica
5. Foo Fighters
6. The Beatles
7. Live (though they got weird as shit their last 2 albums)
8. Van Halen
9. Rush
10. Beastie Boys

1. Judas Priest/Rob Halford - I still listen to their songs over and over, even if I am slightly embarrassed at the fact.
2. Motorhead - see above statement.
3. Lorena McKennet - Anything and everything that woman sings is amazing.
4. Lyle Lovett - both his Country and his Blues are great. "Simple Song" is still one of the pieces of music that makes me cry.
5. Metallica - A diverse Heavy-metal band, if that's not an oxymoron. Good to listen to, good to get revved up to.
6. Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson - complex music...my ears like it.
7. The Ditty Bops - VERY tight harmonies and a diverse set of styles. "Oh La La" and "Sister Kate" are on every one of my "favorites" list. ("Fish to Fry" isn't bad either).
8. Billy Joel.
9. Jimmy Buffet - mainly because that's most of what I can sing.
10. Ug...too many to put in this slot.

1. They Might Be Giants
2. Beatles
3. Weird Al Yankovic
4. Metallica
5. Billy Joel
6. Eminem
7. Michael Jackson
8. Elvis
9. Moxy Fruvus
10. Bing Crosby

Some of my favorite bands (not single performers), not necessarily in this order:
The Beatles
The Moody Blues
Led Zeppelin
Santana
Three Dog Night
Loggins & Messina
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
Bad Company
The Doobie Brothers

LCD Soundsystem
Friendly Fires
MGMT
Miike Snow (yes, it's spelled correctly - buy the album its good)
Simian Mobile Disco

I am afraid I also like Vampire Weekend, but I am painfully white and middle class so no surprises there.

I could name, Underworld, Portishead, Chemical Brothers, Jackson 5, Rufus Wainright, Lily Allen and a who host of eclectic stuff, but I thought I would limit it to "new and interesting"

Forgot Soundgarden and Concrete Blonde.
