First gays, now drugs...

Dude, what the fuck. Seriously, read my post upthread. I lay out executive decisions that Obama has available. I specifically posted positive changes that Obama can make without Congress.

Ah, my mistake. You'll have to forgive me as I fundamentally believe Obama can't make decisions. :)

We'll see if he's a boat rocker or not. My bet is not. Unless you believe Obama's position as stated in the OP is a fib, I don't see where you're coming from.

As I said earlier, there is alot of room between our current position and pushing for legalization. He's stated earlier he isn't a big drug war guy, so I don't see him keeping it going as hard as Bush has. Especially on pot.

Yeah, Biden as VP is real confidence inspiring too.

Let's hope you and Radley Balko are right and he at least calls off the raids on medical marijuana.

I am guardedly..."optimistic" isn't really the right word. But I no longer think the man is Carter 2.0. He's done some interesting things so far and I'm starting to hope his "healing the political system" schtick is actually the real deal.

Having said that, if there are any Obama aides here, don't fuck with the gun laws. If you try to come up with any "common sense gun safety regulations" *shiver* there will be...trouble. :cylon:

See I figure new gun laws will be how he woos back his critics on the left.

"We're not gonna give ya gays, we're not gonna give ya drugs, but we're gonna take some guns!!!"

I'm thinking the NRA has made guns enough of a third rail that Obama is pretty much going to leave them alone.

I could be wrong, but I think he's got enough on his plate with the Economy, Healthcare and GWOT that it'll be a while before he can get to liberal pet projects.

Yeah. Even if, somehow, the Democratic old-timers forget what happened in 1994, I'm sure millions of letters from NRA members will remind Obama what happened after the Clinton Ban.

Let's say that in three years the Left is extremely disillusioned with the Messiah, he may be grasping at straws to secure his reelection base.

Don't think it's gonna happen.

As I've said before, Bush handed Obama re-election on a silver platter. On many policies, all he has to do is just bring them back to center, and he's a hero.

What has he brought back to the center? Or, to word it better, what do you think he'll bring back to center?

Meaningless as it is, he's making more peace offerings to the far right than he is pulling the nation back from fascism. The war? The economy? All of his talk has centered on lowering expectations for the New Deal II: Electric Boogaloo. I'll grant you the environment, he's bound to go militant hippy on that.

Pulling out of Iraq (just following the SOF) will be seen as a victory for the left.

Also, look at the changes to the drug war I outlined above.

I actually doubt that. I see him going more for subsidies and R&D than radical punitive measures.
