There isn't any point in mass producing them until there is a better refueling system. No point in driving the thing to work if you can't drive it home. I've heard about plans to turn parking lots and garages into fueling stations so people can recharge their cars while they are at work. Good idea.
Compressed air is another good alternative - again it is the refueling that has to be addressed.
It isn't going to happen overnight. Not everyone can replace their car in a year or two with an alternative fuel vehicle. Same with putting service stations all over the place.
Supply and demand have to be developed equally.
