She's wrong, but not for the reason you think, Menty. By law, the U.S. has a secular GOVERNMENT. The term "nation" refers to the people of the country as a group. As a "nation" the people are majority Christian, so it is a "Christian nation" in that sense. However, the government is secular.

I know America has a secular government for all intents and purposes. I was bawking at the statement that we don't. Comparing how secular the governments are in practice Britain is far more so.
And before people start getting all uppity my original post was steeped in some pretty wild and purposefully ironic single brush strokes. This is The Mine Field. Not Newsnight.
The fact remains however that there is a notable portion of America (including the government) that has this twisted sense of entitlement and are far too quick to heavily criticize a sovereign nation and laughably your closest allies over an internal decision that despite being in your interest due to American casualties has otherwise nothing to do with you in a judicial sense. Why there was a public attempt to influence this move is incredible especially considering what would happen if the roles were reversed.
I'd be more sympathetic if the American Government had not exerted its full diplomatic muscles in an attempt to extradite an autistic boy from Britain for hacking in an attempt to find out about some bloody UFO's despite the crime being committed on our soil.
But insulting the PEOPLE of Britain due to something the government did is the thing that got my goat. I mean that really is insane is you think about it for even a nanosecond.

Private Eye have run some fascinating articles presenting the argument that his imprisonement was a gigantic miscarriage of justice to begin with.

I found Sarah Palin's idiocy gently amusing up until she declared the NHS was "evil". Yeah, it has a hell of a lot of problems, it's mired in budget issues and bureaucracy, but it still helps millions of people who wouldn't otherwise be able to help themselves.
