Someone might want to check CPU activity and see if there are any spikes.Well thery're first in line in any purge no matter what. So it's always just a matter of time...
The board IS slow when Dork's thread is posted in too, so that thing about him being on dial-up not slowing the board was wrong. Unless it's slow for some other reason.
I'm sure those here also noticed the board speed up after Dork stopped spamming SCII as well
I would like the same respectable warning if Spamcapital was going to be purged as well.
Understandable, seeing as it's a Frankentstein's creation of hundreds of legitimate threads.
Hmm, this is interesting. I'm going to have to keep an eye on SCIII at Haven, aren't I?
Having been assured by mm herself that my posts were too slow to affect the board's speed, I can only apologize as empirical evidence seems to indicate otherwise.
Yeah, I know it's nothing official right now. I also know that I am not going to win the most-favorite-BL-mod award from LC, Dual and DL for my suggestion, but it's just that, if those two threads really make TK slow for a bunch of people, I think it is time to do something about it.Just to add some perspective, mm hasn't called for any deleting of anything yet.
This all happened in the course of casual conversation between Gagh & me.
But yes, if there are some posts in there that you want to keep, better safe than sorry.
OK, I think I have been able to locate parts of Gonad's thread, but I have no idea which posts belong to LC's Goodnight thread. Separating the Karma thread posts from Spamcapital will prove to be very difficult, especially when there isn't much karma given on the posts.
Also, if I start splitting SpamCapital now, it will not reach the 50,000 posts - mark as soon, so what d'you want: splitting or getting 50,000 with risking to lose it all?
There is no smart/methodical way to split "important" threads out of a 40,000+ post thread. You have to pick away at them post by post. So unless Ilyana wants to start hunting, pecking and splitting, it's not going to happen. And the drain on the server while using the search function on a huge thread is a perfect example of how a big spam thread affects the board without any rapid-fire posting.
It's spam. I have no fond affection for this cause. It sucks that some nonspam threads got mixed in, but there is no "cause" here to champion IMO. Luckily it's not my call.
OK, let's spam it up to 50,000, then I will try and split some of the good stuff (and whoever is inclined to do so and has too much time on his/her hand is always welcome to point me to posts they want to save), then Eggs or whoever has the power can delete it along with Gagh Central. That should take care of the server drain. Remember, Spamcapital IV (or V, since some of us are actually planning on planting one into EI) is only one mouse-click away
Deal?

MM knows two things about the board's software. One is Diddly. The other is Squat.
It is always up to the individual poster to keep track of their post count if it truly is something that matters to them. They report it, it gets updated.
