Game Of Thrones 3.7 'The Bear And The Maiden Fair'

I want to smell dark matter
Daenerys exchanges gifts with a slave lord outside Yunkai. As Sansa frets about her prospects, Shae chafes at Tyrion’s new situation. Tywin counsels the king, and Melisandre reveals a secret to Gendry. Brienne faces a formidable foe in Harrenhal.

No mention of Ros' funeral there, but I'm sure they wouldn't miss that out!

This episode was written by George R. R. Martin.

I hope there's lots of Brienne and Jaime this episode. OH and Dany, they've shortchanged her this season. Now that they're saving money on prostitutes, maybe they could find Strong Belwas somewhere :rwmad:

The dragons looked pretty good. ALSO, Dany's hair is much better than it was in the first season.

Overall I thought it was a good episode. I wish they could give each storyline more time, but I realize that is impossible.

Is this real life?
Well, the story didn't really progress an awful lot, but I felt it was a lot better than last week's. The scenes seemed to be a lot longer, and the episode as a whole felt much longer, so I am sated for a week.

Jon and Ygritte continue to be a really nice couple to watch. They're very natural together. How many more of her people are there, though? They have kind of given the impression it's just a couple of dozen people, but presumably there are thousands.

Ygritte confusing the windmill for a palace was adorbs.

Only a few dozen crossed over the Wall, but there's thousands still North of it waiting to march after Gareth sends his eagle back over to tell them it's time. I though the Jon/Ygriette scenes were good again. Maybe it's because George was writing it but Jon seemed more like book Jon.

The Dany scenes were really well shot and it as good seeing the other dragons rather than just Drogon again (though OF COURSE Drogon got the hero shot.)

The Jaime/Brienne scenes were really good and that's one story that does move forward every week.

I guess the problem with some of the others is that they need other stuff to happen before they can move other stories forwards, so there's some wheel-spinning with some stuff (the Tyrion/Sansa plot mainly.) But I did like the Margaery/Sansa scene!

Robb/Talisa don't really get many ITIMATE scenes so I understand why that was there.

"I could arrange for you to be carried." Only Twywin could slap down Joffrey without actually slapping him.

I liked that they showed some of the wreckage from the Battle of Blackwater (in the book Tyrion travels around the city ordering repairs and stuff.)

The Theon scene...well acted as usual, but they do feel a bit repetitive and Theon still isn't really likable (as opposed to Jaime) so it can come off as torture porn. IN THE BOOKS it's all done differently (he isn't in this book at all) but I can assure you there is a point...just not sure they need to spend so much screentime on it this season.

The interplay between Joffrey and Tywin was really amazing. I don't really have much else to add besides that even having read the wiki summary of what happens to Theon in the end the whole crucifiction subplot doesn't really seem necessary or like it has a point to it.

I guess I can defer to the people who have actually read the books, though.

It has a point but they don't actually have to show so much of it. In the books we don't see him for ages and when he does he's totally changed (thanks to the torture.) I think it has more impact that way.

My therapist and I were talking about it yesterday. She's like "Don't make me like Jaime Lannister! DON'T MAKE ME LIKE HIM NOW!!!"

This was the first time I actually enjoyed Jon Snow. He seems to have loosened up a bit, and his face actually made expressions.

Loved the smirk Tywin gave as he left Joffrey.

FORGOT TO SAY: Osha asks Hodor something rhetorical. Hodor thinks about it for a moment. Looks confused. Then finally offers "Hodor?"

THAT'S how you write Hodor dialogue!
