George Takei Disses William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy

holy shit close this thread and start over

Why? Because I am kind of confused.

In your opinion did the thread go downhill when I said Takei wasnt all he was cracked up to be, which presumably means you were fine with the whole "Takei and pals laughing about the idea of him raping Shatner"?

I mean can you imagine if there was a video of Shatner laughing about the idea of raping Nichelle Nichols? People would be appalled, they might even call it a racist hate crime.

But somehow its ok for George, because that's just him being flamboyant?

Also you can help me out, you're a trek fan too right?

Maybe you can name me something Sulu did that was memorable in-between running around the corridor with a sword and his shirt off, and "don't call me tiny"

If we argue enough about Star Trek, FILTHYRECWHORE might come back.

KEEP ARGUING!

By the way Whisky, the destruction of Takei was a little rich. Shatner didn't put his family through internment but there was really no need to mention it. Anyone would think you were being overly dramatic to raise the temperature of an argument. We used to do that at theRanter...

Takei is just having fun as far as I can see. It is the straight US media that plays it as a mean faced feud.

I also find the idolisation of Shatner on this website and generally across the civilised world as lacking substance. He was / is a good actor but frankly he is a bit of a ham as well. If you admire him with a sense of chuckling irony then fine. If you admire him as some sort of elder statesmen then frankly you are stupid.

Shatner is by no means perfect, but he hasn't spent the last 45 years slagging off his co-stars, he did what most other actors would do, look for more work, Nimoy did the same, Deforest just gave up acting, only coming out of retirement to be in the star trek films.

The three of them were the stars of the show, the others were little more than recurring extras, there for a little colour and diversity, Scotty came off the best because at least he had unique skills, there were plenty of people who could sit at the helm, navigate, and open hailing frequencies.

Before trek they were guest stars, drifting in and out of other peoples shows for one episode at a time, they didn't have great careers before, but suddenly afterwards when they still didn't have great careers this had become somehow Shatner's fault.

I once read a Doohan interview where he said he would have had a career as great as Jack Nicholson, if only he had been given a few more lines, and a few more close ups.

Some of these people need to know there is a difference between "a show was successful, and I was in it" and "a show was successful because I was in it"

I mean can you imagine if there was a video of Shatner laughing about the idea of raping Nichelle Nichols? People would be appalled [...]

As a non-Trekkie, I won't involve myself further in this most excellent thread, but that's true. Howard Stern show or not, I thought that was tasteless from Takei, myself.
