Georgina Sparks watch

Oh: At the end, we get a glimpse of the Gossip Girl password Georgina sent Serena. It's SvetlanaSparks, Georgina's daughter's name :-3

Family comes first to Georgina!

She's a good role model for a modern working mother.

I mean yes her 'work' is disrupting the lives of spoilt New Yorkers, but that's still valid!

In this last episode, Serena was quite definitely ostracised from the group, her grotesque transformation into Gossip Girl finally complete. So good job, Georgina.

Also some guy was raised from the dead and Liz Hurley ran a brothel//cult. Georgina didn't appear, though.

Bart Bass, who died in a car crash in season 2, is revealed at the end of the episode to have been alive all along! He was at the climactic party, in cahoots with Diana Payne!

(It's a commentary on money as the ultimate form of freedom. We've already seen how our characters' money frees them from scrutiny by the law or other traditional authorities, and even in most cases allows them to bend those institutions completely to their will, and the only check on their behaviour comes from social controls such as Gossip Girl. Bart Bass, the richest man on the show by far, manages to use his money to escape even that and live a life completely unconstrained by anybody else.)

Georgina Sparks watch: Just her usual end-of-season cameo where she promises to destroy all of New York next season. This time she'll write a book!

Will TAYLOR MOMSEN return for this final season?

They've certainly set it up so she would have a role to play.

I actually liked this episode a lot, because it moved a lot of the pieces into place for my ideal S6. Bad Serena finally comes back out and completes her spiral of self-destruction, the Ivies team up to take down the Rhodes Women, Lily is an alcoholic (didn't the OC do that storyline? Maybe Seven of Nine can cameo), Rufus is irrelevant, Chuck, Blair, Dan, and Georgina all have skin in the game finally trying to take down the UES social system instead of jockeying for position within it, and Jenny Humphrey will return from exile to lead a fashion line, or something. I am excited as all hell for season 6.

Especially for Serena's spiral. Holy hell will that be glorious.

The AV Club gave the new episode a D-. ACCURATE?

What does it even mean to grade a Gossip Girl episode honestly. Serena disappeared for four months and literally not a person noticed ("Oh, I haven't talked to my daughter in four months, maybe I should get on that", says Lily). When they find her there's cleavage, and she's constructed an alter-ego cleverly named "Sabrina". Chuck and Blair got back together and broke up again, and this is so banal at this point that it happened offscreen. Rufus and Lily are bad parents, there's mysterious women hatching sinister plots related to our main characters, Nate is still pretending to be a journalist ("I had a journalism teacher at Columbia, a school I went to", he lies!), Dan just gets dragged along to places by people. It's Gossip Girl.

Oh, and my favourite nugget possibly:

Serena's mom realises she hasn't talked to her daughter in four months. She calls Serena's best friend, who rounds up the gang, and none of them have seen her since that fateful day she ODed on public transportation. That's all par for the course with Serena, though. She might have become an author's muse or gotten attacked by wolves.

The moment they realise it's serious, though, is when they look up Gossip Girl and see that Gossip Girl hasn't mentioned Serena in four months. Then you know something's happened.
