Paul Feig in Talks to Direct ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot With Women

Paul Feig is being courted to direct and produce a “Ghostbusters” comedy reboot.

Feig is not helming “Ghostbusters 3″ or another sequel, in any sense of the word, as has been incorrectly reported.

The movie is a total reboot most likely with female characters played by comedic actresses in the ghostbusting roles, according to sources. The script will be written from scratch.

Feig, who is best known for helming the comedy hits “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” has been in conversation with Sony to direct the project. However, no formal negotiations have taken place yet. Sony declined to comment.

Feig is also re-teaming with Melissa McCarthy to direct her latest comedy “Spy,” which is slated for a Memorial Day 2015 release. The director has several new scripts in development at Fox that will likely be ready to go while he’s at work on “Spy” so this “Ghostbusters” fem reboot will not necessarily be his next film.

“Ghostbusters 3″ was initially supposed to be directed by Ivan Reitman, the director of the original “Ghostbusters” and its 1989 follow-up, “Ghostbusters II,” but he dropped out in March. It’s unclear whether another director will be chosen for that project or if this reboot will take its place.

“Men in Black 3″ writer Etan Cohen was brought on broad in 2012 to redraft “Ghostbusters 3.” “The Office” scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were hired in 2008 to revive the blockbuster franchise.

Can't they just make a new cool movie with a female team instead of "rebooting" Ghostbusters? But I guess it's better than having Dan Aykroyd being the only original in it teaching a new young team of dudes or whatever the idea was before.
 
Reminds me of that sitcom in the 80s about a black family that bought Archie Bunker's house. It had nothing to do with All In The Family at all, except that it took place on its old set.

YEAH THIS WILL BE GREAT, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S ALL POLITICALLY CORRECT AND OFFENDS NO ONE. (which it will be, and it will suck ballz)

Channing Tatum, Russo Brothers to Develop 'Ghostbusters' for Guys

“Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman is teaming with Dan Aykroyd to form Ghost Corps, a new production company based on the Sony lot that is teaming with Channing Tatum, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” directors Joe and Anthony Russo and “Iron Man 3” writer Drew Pearce to develop a supernatural comedy set in the “Ghostbusters” universe, TheWrap has learned.

The film will serve as a counterpart to Paul Feig’s female-powered “Ghostbusters” movie starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

The testosterone-heavy project will be developed as a potential starring vehicle for Tatum, who will produce with Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, the Russo brothers and Ghost Corps.

The Russo brothers are not officially attached to direct at this point, as they’re busy with “Captain America: Civil War” and have set their sights on potentially directing Marvel’s two-part “Avengers” finale. The siblings signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures just last week.

“We want to expand the ‘Ghostbusters’ universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment,” Reitman told Deadline, which first reported the news. “This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July, 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies… My primary focus will be to build the ‘Ghostbusters’ into the universe it always promised it might become. The original film is beloved, as is the cast, and we hope to create films we will continue to love… Sometimes things happen as the speed they are supposed to happen. The deals were so strong on that second movie that the franchise became frozen in place 25 years. Nothing got done, we all had the power to block whatever we didn’t like, but we finally got together and found a way.”

Marvel has many different properties in the same shared universe. This is an attempt to contruct a "universe" out of one property. It's exactly what Sony were trying to do with Spider-Man before they realised they didn't have a fucking clue what to do there (they were planning an AUNT MAY movie at one point) and gave up and went o Marvel for help. They just scored out "Spider-Man" in their plans and wrote in "Ghostbusters".
 
I predict likewise. It may be politically incorrect to say, but Seinfeld was on the money. With a tiny, tiny handful of exceptions, dames ain't funny.
 
They are funnier bouncing off men.

An almost all female cast is why death proof was such a clusterfuck.
 
Women are just as funny as men. I think it's just that once you go beyond very general topics, where everyone has very similar experiences that they can find humour in, male comedians start to make observations that other men relate to and female comedians make jokes that other women relate to. So men think women aren't very funny, and perhaps women think men aren't either.
