It was obvious during ST:IV when he kept wearing his leather jacket like a cape.
 
In retrospect, when he was oiled up with his shirt off waving his sword around in the original series, was a tad on the camp side.
 
He was doing that in TSfS as well, but by TVH he was flicking it over one shoulder and chatting up helicopter pilots willy nilly.
