I don't know.. maybe they like to dress up as pirates and put on plays and then the Losties just didn't get it, so they decided the Losties must die.

Yep! They were just playing when the abducted Walt, shot Sawyer and blew up the raft. Michael should have had a sense of humour about it!

yeah, it's all Michaels fault anyway. The Others just recognized Walt's acting skilz and wanted him to join their troupe. They planned on touring all the islands in the area.
