It looks kinda gross! I've been seeing the commercials for it a lot lately. I'm pretty sure i will watch it!

(also, I searched for a preexisting Helix thread using Google, so if there is one I didn't find it, SORRY okay? :rwmad: )

Never heard of it before (which is strange since I follow Ron Moore news.) It looks like a rip-off of The Thing and I've never even watched The Thing? But maybe it'll be good? It's an actual series? Jeri Ryan's in it?

The cast

Billy Campbell - Dr. Alan Farragut
Hiroyuki Sanada - Dr. Hiroshi Hataki
Jeri Ryan - Constance Sutton
Jordan Hayes - Dr. Sarah Jordan
Kyra Zagorsky - Dr. Julia Walker
Neil Napier - Dr. Peter Farragut
Mark Ghanime - Major Sergio Balleseros
Meegwun Fairbrother - Daniel Aerov
Catherine Lemieux - Dr. Doreen Boyle
Benoit Priest - Security Guy

Two of our favorite sci-fi icons are teaming up on Syfy.

We were already excited that Ron Moore was spearheading a new scripted sci-fi drama, Helix, which will weave the tale of a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control unraveling the mystery of a possible disease outbreak.

And while we expect government conspiracies, potential total annihilation and maybe a rogue Cylon hiding in the background, one thing we were not anticipating was this exciting new casting -- Star Trek: Voyager's own Jeri Ryan has officially joined the cast.

The former Borg will be taking on the role of Constance Sutton, the chief operating officer of Ilaria Corporation, owner of Arctic Biosystems. She's been described as "charming and savvy, (and) used to getting her way at any cost."

Ryan landed the Helix gig hot on the heels of her last show, Body of Proof, coming to an end after three seasons. We have to say, we're very pleased to see her returning to the sci-fi shores. After playing Seven of Nine for so many years, Ryan had been sticking mostly to more slice-of-life fare. And while we don't anticipate cybernetic implants or cat suits (what was the scientific explanation for that outfit again?), we imagine that strong, willful attitude Ryan brought to Voyager will be back again on Helix.

Ryan rounds out the current cast of Billy Campbell (The Killing, Killing Lincoln) and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine, 47 Ronin).

Helix is set to debut its 13-episode season in January 2014.

If it's good, SyFy will give a shitty time slot, and then cancel it after two seasons!

That's the main reason I'll be watching yes. That Okono was so outrageous the way he had sex wtih women for reasons other than reproduction!

I haven't watched it yet, but I'm reading people griping about it already. IT'S THE FIRST 15 MINUTES OF A NEW SHOW OF COURSE THEY'RE GOING TO CRAM A BUNCH OF SHIT IN THERE. They're probably right, though. I WILL SEE FOR MYSELF :rwmad:

Well, Bitten has a cute girl in it, but will probably be terrible, and this has gross infections and might be terrible... I DON'T KNOW.

Oh, GOSH DARN IT IT WASN'T THAT GOOD. :rwmad:

It was okay. I will watch a couple more times to give it a proper chance, but the dialog was terrible, the music was terrible, the plot has been done.

Really smart scientists do stupid things to serve the plot - when a show does this I get ANGRY.

Do You Know the Way to Santa Fe? WELL DO YOU? Why the fuck did they choose this kind of music during scenes that should have been scary and suspenseful? When I heard Ron Moore was working on this show I expected Bear McCreary level awesomeness... I mean I didn't even think to look at who was doing the soundtrack, so I never thought Bear was involved or anything but I expected better music than what you can hear in an ELEVATOR.

This is a very gory and disgusting show at times... but if they do it right it could be so good. I'm afraid they're not going to do it right. It looks like Seven of Nine is one of the bad guys, and it kind of looks like they're going for comically evil or something. FUCK.

Dr Hatake is kinda hot, IMO.

I'm downloading it, but I probably won't watch it for a few days. It's also going to be on tv here but I think it's on 10pm I don't like watching tv that late because it cuts into CHAT AND TUMBLR time.

Using that music reminded me of when they did that sort of thing in Lost, except they usually got away with it because we'd had time to get used to the kookiness. In this it just distracted from the drama.

Javi Grillo-Marxuach is a writer on Helix and he was on Lost. MAYBE IT'S HIS FAULT. He seems really nice so I won't fuss at him on Twitter!

Case in point, I think they introduced Juliet's muffins with Downtown, but even for something so crucial it really worked.

Juliet - Jules - muffins downtown - IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW

I wonder what Jules is really up to. Peter told the girl who went after the morphine that she was there FOR A REASON. Maybe she knows the way to Santa Fe.
