How can anyone accept Christianity

I agree with you there. Anywhere ppl say we can come and discuss such topics openly and free from flame, once we open up and let them know our questions and concerns, they immediately freak out and tell us off.

I think Cranky has been banned recently, or maybe just restricted at some Christian Forum for speaking his mind against their "tired old" fire and brimstone saga of fear and control.

I enjoy reading what everyone has to say, and I try to never ever get offended. Especially when it's about religion and God.

Ok so we handed dominion of the earth to Satan when? In the Garden of Eden? Another thing that bugs me is why did God let that happen? I mean if he knew Men were weak then why put temptation there in the first place? My grandma says we will know all these answers that it will all be clear after the second coming of Christ. I do not want to wait that long!

I never get offended either. I don't preach either. I don't mind mentioning that I'm Catholic though ant chance I get though. It makes no difference to me what religion everyone else is.

Let me ask you a question that may help.

If you have or when you have kids, what would you prefer from them? Total obedience, or trust?

By giving the choice to man to chuck it all away, He provided the choice of fallen man to trust God. He could have waved his hand and forced obedience, but He wanted trust.

On earth, man is still pushing obedience. The church is still whipping the believer to force them to fit man's perception of "godliness." The "gospel" (good news, literally) is that obedience is fulfilled by substitution and trust is the key to justification - without the law.

So, going back to the beginning, God knew that in giving the world to man that man would (of course) screw it up and hand it to Satan. The way is then paved for man to freely choose God from a position of damnation and rise above his condition.

Probably the best you can do is turn the channel whenever you see a televangelist on television. Nearly all of them preach fear and sin instead of faith.
 
You would make a good preacher, that probably sounds like an insult but it's not meant to be. You have really given me a lot to think about.

When my great great granny was alive I got an overdose of televangelists.. well one in particular, she loved to watch John Hagee. I thought he was an evil money grubbing liar. I don't trust any of them, they not only preach fear and sin, they also preach hate for anyone not in line with their beliefs.
 
If it were left to me to save anyone, the entire world would burn in hell. My gift isn't evangelism. God has other tools for that.

And a good man knows his limitations.

As has been said in this thread, what we call the Bible is basically a Frankenstein’s monster of different stories/books etc, derived from a number of different sources, all pasted together into one book.

Some people choose to interpret this book literally. Others believe that they can explain away the many inconsistencies and anomalies by interpreting the Bible in a more metaphorical way.

The problem is: If The Bible is not the exact word of God, (but is instead to an unknown extent metaphorical in nature, and to be interpreted in one way or another) Then why should anyone base their beliefs on it?

I challenge anyone to give me a satisfactory answer to this question, without using the word FAITH.
 
Why do the women on CTN put their make up on with a trowel? Is there some law that says women on "Christian" TV have to wear so much eye make up they need toothpicks to hold their eyelids open? And the awful purple tinted wigs, makes me want to slap the shit out of them.

No, I don't believe that there is a law that says they should. But some people have read the book of Genesis and concluded that that was what God meant to say. He was just being very cryptic and metaphorical that day. :laugh:
 
Genesis don't say shit about make-up and neither does any of the rest of the bible - despite what the fucking baptist-pharisees tell you.
