How many reality shows do you watch per week?

Homo Erectus: possibly the only funny thing you have said here.

Come on man - I've said other funny shit. Haven't I? It's all performance art right? Give me a break here -

I hate HATE "reality" shows. As far as what constitutes a "reality" show, I'm certainly not talking about cooking shows or educational/documentary type programs. I'm talking about horseshit like "Survivor", "The Apprentice" and other such nonsense. Basically, shows that are nothing more than sticking stupid people and/or minor celebrities in a house together to watch them make asses out of themselves, fight and perform stupid "challenges". So, I chose ZERO in the poll.

I don't have cable and usually forget to turn the tv on, but some I have enjoyed in the past include:

Celebrity train wreck: that one where the famous people go to rehab, or get out of rehab, or have to live together for a minute. I know there are like five different kinds of show but they're all basically "Watch this fucked-up z-lister make an ass of him/herself for your amusement". The rehab one is best because Dr. Drew wanders in sometimes to try to give it a sense of gravitas.

Ghost and Bigfoot guys: again, there are a few of these, but I love how they take shaky-cam and night vision shots, edit them so it seems like something's going on, then run around screaming and saying shit like "Did you guys just hear that noise?" and "Something just touched my arm!" and make people watch for whole seasons. Pure fucking genius. I watched one I call "Ghost Fratboys" where these young guys with gel-heads go into haunted places and talk shit to the alleged ghosts. Once he was telling Al Capone's ghost it was a pussy and a prison bitch. I found myself hoping Capone would suddenly appear and fuck him up...

"Fat people getting skinny" show. I don't like the contest stuff or the dumb challenges or the bogus drama of alliances and plotting and crap, but out of all the "reality" shows this is the only one honestly helping these people out. The emotion on their faces when they get up at the end and weigh in and lose weight is real, no matter who ends up winning money. I like the weigh in part of that show. You can't help but root for them. Kind of like the rehab show. I'd probably like the "build a house" show too if that ADD retard guy wasn't running around yelling and mugging for the camera all the time.

I could have learned a new language in the time I spent watching Buffy, so while I concur completely with what Dirk said, I aint gonna judge ya for watching them. It's a free country. (Well, unless you're in China or North Korea or - )
The minions have several favourites they seem to find entertaining, so I just go upstairs and read or spam on the 'puter.

I find American reality shows tend to take trash-tv to a new level. It's kind of weird because they tend to be pretty glossy, with expensive (by British standards) sets and presenters with millions of layers of make-up on, but they're so false and melodramatic. Every five minutes they're reminding you of what just happened or how crucial some challenge is.

The British ones aren't high brow by any means, but I do think they focus a little more on varied, interesting contestants rather than constantly trying to distract you with shiny objects.

I used to watch Survivor and Big Brother, but over the years the contestants have gotten worse, and they've all watched the shows too much, so they just do the same things previous contestants did OVER AND OVER AND OVER, FUCK.

I only watch The Apprentice (UK) and I'm Not Pregnant And I'm Going To Pretend To Faint Get Me Out Of Here at the moment. I'd watch BB if it came back.

It seems to have become pervasive. I can't even stomach professional (yankee style) football any more with all the pomp and glitz they add to it. What's funny is the reality shows I like best are TRUE reality shows, the POV type stuff they show on PBS and frequently they are from Britain. I watched a piece on the 3 guys who do your version of the fast car show and the guys were so funny and engaging I wished I could see the show here. Then I find out they ARE gonna do it here, only...you guessed it, they're replacing the hosts with Americans and flashier graphics. Way to still suck, American TV.

Well I guess if we are counting top gear then that one.

However by most definitions of reality TV I wouldnt consider it one, because if you count that then you might as well count the news.

Do you ever get out of crotchety old man mode?

I am going to give thanks for reality shows today just to annoy people.

That doesn't annoy me. Try giving thanks to the retards in Daycare and the ones still being allowed to wander the board freely. That might do the trick.
