I have spent a small fortune on gifts for my daughter, son-in-law, and step-grandchildren. There will be some celebrating going on at their house.
I need Christmas - and not because it is an end of the year boost to the economy. It is the color and the sound, the atmosphere and the expectation. It is the party and letting loose just a little bit on the diet and the purse strings. God made Christmas for me.
I love celebrating Christmas. Watching the classic Christmas specials, putting up the nativity putting up the artificial tree, the delicious smells of baked goods, singing Christmas carols, drinking eggnog and hot chocolate, spending time with the family, etc.
I like the pretty lights, and the family stuff. I don't like shopping, though. I know that's weird! We throw a big party in the woods every year, and we hand out inexpensive toys to any kid who shows up. Everyone brings some food, and we eat and hang out for a few hours. My stepfather dresses up like Santa. We stopped exchanging gifts a few years ago, and that made Christmas so much better! Now the only gifts we give are at the party, but they're not specific gifts that you have to stress out over.
Between me and my gf, we have three family christmases to attend... uh... four birthdays (including my own and hers), and then there's the whole new years thing where we try to get as smashed as possible before life starts back up again in January.
Oh yeah, I forgot the soup kitchen gig and the Mummers on broad New Years day. Of course, Mummers on Broad always turns into Mummers on 2 street. From there it's a tossup between a drunken riot or a free love kinda atmosphere.
