Now all I have to do is learn how to play it.

Vow: I will do my best to never, even accidentally, learn that song from "Deliverance."
 
First song to learn: Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie. FTW.
 
Dude... The first song I figured out was actually the U2 tune "Sometimes You Can't Make it On Your Own."

Not on purpose, I don't really even like that song. Just an artifact of how the banjo is structured. (I was messing with Bm - A - G and it turns out that's the same interval as the hook from the U2 song.)

But still a little bizarre, so funny to hear banjo playing overwrought pop. If I actually make an effort to learn anything, I think I'm going to make it something over-the-top pop-y. (Britney Spears etc.) I actually write a lot of music and hardly ever take the time to learn songs written by other people... Though I enjoy other people's music and would learn some if I didn't write so much / have a real job.

btw, one of the guys from my music jam group has a banjo.

After seeing him tap dance like a demon with the one and only Gregory Hines after only 6 months practice and now I find out he can play the fucking Banjo as well?

He learned banjo before he learned stand-up. He started out working at Disneyland as a street performer.
 
I've heard it's one of the most difficult instruments to learn.

that's what my pal says too - and he plays guitar, concertina, harmonica, and drums as well. bastard.
