I like the song.
I find that I am seriously annoyed by newer shows with laugh tracks.. I tried watching something recently that was supposed to be funny (can't remember the name and I think it's canceled now anyway) the fake laughter every few seconds was terrible. The things the characters were saying weren't funny at all, and the phony laughter only made it more obvious.
I don't even notice the laugh track on MASH, probably because the show is funny and I don't need to be told to laugh.

Richard Cromwell, Zephram Cocharane, or the one from TOS?
If you mean Cromwell, which you probably do, he's a Character Actor, like Rene Auberjonois, John Lithgow et al. They'll do any sort of part, on any sort of series, because that's their bread and butter.
They also tend to be some of the best actors out there, too.

The laugh track was less intrusive in the first 3 seasons of M*A*S*H, because those episodes were actually funny.
