I don't understand why Hwi Noree slept with Duncan Idaho

Yeah, especially when you think about how far in the future Dune is set... which I can't remember right now, but I know that information is somewhere on the internet.

Dune is somewhere between 10000 and 12000ish CE IIRC. GEoD is around 15000, and the series ends 1500ish years later around 16000-17000.

Of course it's not just human memories that Leto has, in CoD I believe Ghani and Leto mention having memories from before humans had evolved into humans.

I can't remember the name of Leto's oldest ego-memory.. DAMMIT, it's just floating around in my head and I can't remember it. I don't remember Leto and Ghani saying they had memories of humans before evolving into humans. I do remember Leto mentioning a particular ancestor who he had made a pact with along with his father's ego memory. He also mentioned Agamemnon a few times.

I think it's something that starts with an S if that helps at all.

I think the pre-human memories thing had a really brief mention in the first part of CoD while Leto's still at Tabr, or I might just be imagining it.

... And of course he mentions Agamemnon, Atreides is the house of Atreus (Agamemnon's father). ;)

All the way back to the fishes! lol

I've been reading the alt.fan.dune. stuff.. can't find the guys name. I'll just have to read the damn books again.

I've only read them once (the first four anyway) and am a mere novice in comparison to those learned in Dune lore.

Remember I didn't even understand that the Duke had died after his tooth exploded!

You're memory is a million times better than mine Wacky, you probably know more about Dune from your one reading than I do from my 15.

I finally remembered the name, it's Harum. Now I don't remember what I was going to say about it. lol

"You have an admirable directness," Leto said. "I'm a community dominated by one who was ancient and surpassingly powerful. He fathered a dynasty which endured for three thousand of our years. His name was Harum and, until his line trailed out in the congenital weaknesses and superstitions of a descendant, his subjects lived in a rhythmic sublimity. They moved unconsciously with the changes of the seasons. They bred individuals who tended to be short-lived, superstitious, and easily led by a god-king. Taken as a whole, they were a powerful people. Their survival as a species became habit."
"I don't like the sound of that," Farad'n said.
"Nor do I, really," Leto said. "But it's the universe I'll create."
"Why?"
"It's a lesson I learned on Dune. We kept the presence of death a dominant specter among the living here. By that presence, the dead changed the living.
The people of such a society sink down into their bellies. But when the time comes for the opposite, when they arise, they are great and beautiful."

Okay...what was the ending of Chapter House all about? Should I at least read summaries of the non-Frank Herbert books to see what happens "next"?

well.. if you feel like reading a bunch of crap. They turn Duncan into the "Ultimate Kwisatz Haderach" and use Skytale's null entropy tube to bring back a bunch of dead characters including Paul, Chani and Leto II. Everyone who has read them was disappointed because Hunters and Sandworms are so ridiculous. KJA totally wrecked the ending.

Well, they say he did and they have a picture of a floppy disk on the official website proving that he had a floppy disk! KJA and BH have admitted in an interview that they created Ominus and Erasmus (gay suicidal robots), and somehow they still claim that they used FH's notes to write the last two books.. but if they created Ominus and Erasmus how could they be the ancient enemy? Basically KJA and BH pissed off most of FH's fans by being liars and terrible writers.

From reading Chapterhouse, who or what do you think Marty and Daniel are?

They seemed to be face dancers that had absorbed some other lives...or something? Are they meant to be the enemy the Honoured Matres feared?

FACE DANCERS! Yes.. see that is what everyone thinks, because they mentioned Skytale's whistling and something else about absorbing lives or something. Guess what KJA and BH made them into.. I won't make you guess I'll just tell you. They made them into Ominus and Erasmus. Sentient ROBOTS, who like to play dress up and pretend to be human. OH but they hate the humans and want to kill them all too.

See I think the ancient enemy could have been humans with machines, but not sentient homicidal machines. That just isn't Frank Herbert, imo. The way KJA and BH wrote the ending it was as if the Golden Path had failed.. because Ominus and Erasmus have humanity surrounded. The Scattering made that impossible, but BH and KJA wanted to end it their way, not Frank's way. OH and then Norma Cenva shows up, she's been dead for thousands of years, but somehow she's kinda of magic so she comes back and saves the day, along with Duncan Idaho who is the Ultimate Kwisatz Haderach and he melds with either Ominus or Erasmus (can't remember which one) and becomes the leader of both the machines and the humans bringing peace to them both.

dammit.. just remembered FLOWMETAL.. KJA and BH stole the idea from the Terminator universe and made Ominus and Erasmus FLOWY like that one Terminator dude, so they can change their appearance at will.

I read about Daniel and Marty on wiki...sounds a lot like V'Ger from the first Star Trek movie too, especially with Duncan merging with one of them at the end.

I think it's fitting that sci fi that came after Dune borrowed some ideas from Dune, because it was so awesome.. like paying homage to it.

Most of us are just hoping KJA has a terrible hiking accident before he finishes Paul of Dune. They've announced that instead of a trilogy, they're going to write 4 books in Heroes of Dune.. the idiots have decided to "fill in the gaps" of Leto II's life.
