I month ago I was asked to join a small team of artists to provide illustrations for a book about the future and the environment.
The guy running the team had all these ideas that he wanted making in 3D, then spent ages coming up with teh plans for them, up to the point where when the very basic hand drawn plans turned up, all the artists but me had lost interest.
I built a floating house in 3D that was resistant to flooding, then when I got to the texturing stage I asked what it should look like.
The guy said he had a cold and would get back to me.
I jokingly said "what, I have been making this stuff every day after a hernia operation, and you cant tell me what texture this should be because you have a cold?"
Then he says a load of junk about exotic materials and eco friendly building stuff, and tells me he is going to recomend books that I can get from the library, at which point I say, "Im not really intersted in books, I just want a picture of what its meant to look like, so I can make it look like it"
At which point he decided I was too advisarial for the team.
So they got rid of the only artist they had who had actually done any work.
The good news is, I will still be paid for the work I did, the bad news is none of it will be in the book, so I wont get my name in print, or receive any of the residuals, should the book be a suscess.
