I met someone yesterday who didnt know who BONES was!

He only makes a shshshshshshsh noise at my house.
 
Fact:
In Germany, Bones is "Pille" (=German for pill), and if I hadn't become a NeoTrekkie and watched every single episode of season 1 nd 2 in English only A FEW WEEKS AGO I would have been completely lost as to what the initial post was about. It's pathetic, I know. :(

Why would they call him "Pill"? Isn't there a German word for Bones?
 
Bones = "Knochen", which doesn't fit into a sentence that nicely. It's... I don't know how to explain it... pronounced quite hard, so I guess it would be difficult to lipsync. Not that "Pille" can be lipsync'd over "Bones" convincingly, though, come to think of it.
Maybe Pille just works better as a nickname for a medical Doc than "Knochen". Different culture and all that, I guess. No, that's lame, too.

Maybe the translaters just didn't know what Bones means??

And if this leaves you confused, maybe I shouldn't tell you how "going boldly where no man has gone before" has been translated....:fear:

Okay, the 5 is from the "5 year mission" part, but the 2200 and the 400? The year and number of crew?

These are the adventures of the spaceship Enterprise, which is with its 400 men strong crew 5 years long on the way, in order to investigate new worlds, new life and new civilizations. Many light-years far away from the earth, the Enterprise penetrates into galaxies, which never humans saw before.
