we call it pop up here & my pal was remarking that when she was in FLorida they asked if you wanted a coke all the time. She thought maybe Coke had bribed all those places to push its product .
We say Pepsi for Pepsi, Coke for Coke, Ginger Ale for the fizzy soft drink with pseudo ginger flavour, etc.
Soda is generally meant to refer to Club Soda which is a colourless fizzy soft drink great for removing wine stains for winos like me who dont even drink pop!!

The only time I've heard it called pop in New England is one summer when the theater where I was performing had cases of soda delivered each week called Pop Shoppe. Apparently it wasn't available in stores, only by delivery like milk and ice in the olden days.

But even then we called Pop Shoppe soda.
